1)  spigots (noun) – पानी की कल

Meaning: a regulator for controlling the flow of a liquid

Synonyms: valves, stopcocks, faucets

Antonyms: untamed, nonstop

Usage:  It is possibly the fear of market penalties that is holding the government back

from opening the money spigots.

 

2) rectitude (verb) – निष्कपटता  या धार्मिकता

Meaning: Conformity to conventionally accepted standards of behaviour or morals;

Moral or religious correctness;

Synonyms: righteousness, honesty, integrity, nobility, goodness

Antonyms: dishonesty, immorality

Usage: Like St. Augustine who prayed, “god, give me continence, but not yet!,” will the

markets instead see the government as asking, “god, give me fiscal rectitude, but not

yet?” Not necessarily, say the commentators.

Continence — (The ability to control oneself, in particular one’s emotions and desires,

especially in difficult situations)

 

3) awry (verb) – भ्रमित, अराजक

Meaning: With a twist to one side; Wrong or faulty; In a state of confusion; Wrong or

faulty

Synonyms; confused, chaotic, askew, crooked, uneven

Antonyms– straight, even, level, congruent, congruous

Usage: If the estimates go awry, it will simply shift the blame to the fiscal council.

 

4) leached (verb) – लागू होना

Meaning: to purge a soluble matter out of something by the action of a percolating

fluid

Synonyms: drained, filtered

Antonyms: hold, keep

Usage: Social sanction of instant justice by state agents might have leached into

institutions

 

5) Goading (noun) – चुनौती

Meaning: to defy or challenge; To be irritating or upsetting, typically with repeated or

unpleasant acts

Synonyms:  provocative taunt, jeer, insult, challenging, defying

Antonyms: compliment approval, commendation

UsageGoading the police on to deliver instant justice, or even tolerating such

behaviour, creates an atmosphere of impunity that could lead to murder of innocent

6) vantage (noun) – सहूलियत

Meaning: A condition or circumstance that puts one in a favorable or superior

position; One’s point of view or way of looking at things; A solid grip with one’s feet;

Usefulness or benefit;

Synonyms: advantage, edge, standpoint, viewpoint, hold, foothold, use, benefit

Antonyms: disadvantage, drawback, slip, slide, skid

Usage: The assailants, whose exact number and weapons remain a mystery, enjoyed

vantage points on the roofs of adjoining houses. The police called the incident a “well

planned ambush”.

 

7) berserk (noun) – क्रोध या उत्तेजना से नियंत्रण से बाहर

Meaning:  Out of control with anger or excitement; Resistant to control or authority;

Not fitted with a bridle

Synonyms: crazy, mad, wild, unmanageable, uncontrollable, unbridled, intemperate

Antonyms: rational, sane, balanced

Usage: As Dubey had a reputation for violence and showboating, Archana thought this

was yet another episode of the Hench men going berserk or firing to scare someone

away.

 

8) ambush (Adj) – घात लगाना

Meaning:  A surprise attack by people lying in wait in a concealed position; To stop,

deflect or divert; To capture or attack suddenly and unexpectedly;

Synonyms: surprise, ambuscade, attack, assault, assail

Antonyms: frankness, honesty, defend, guard, protect

Usage: she did see them when they were trying to retreat after the ambush.

 

9) numbed (noun) – सुन्न

Meaning: Desensitized or numb to any feeling, sensation or emotion; Unable to think

clearly; In a state of shock or confusion; feeling; sensible; sensitive

Synonyms: foggy, confused, bewildered, dazed, bewildered

Antonyms: clear, definite

Usage:  the firing outside had numbed her. But she gradually mustered (found,

summoned, gathered) courage and tried to crawl towards the door.

 

10) wreckage (Adj) – मलबे

Meaning: The remains of something that has been badly damaged or destroyed; An

abrupt, damaging breakdown or failure; Bad placement

Synonyms: smash, collision, crash, debris, remains, ruins, misplacement, mislaying

Antonyms: building, construction, help, aid, assistance

Usage; On Monday, when this reporter visited the house, Provincial Armed

Constabulary personnel were standing on guard at the wreckage.
