India’s Foreign direct investment Rises 15% to USD 18.62 Billion in April–June Quarter
- According to a government data release, Foreign direct investment (FDI) in India rose 15% to USD 18.62 billion during April-June this fiscal year.
- Total FDI inflows (equity, reinvested earnings, other capital) increased to USD 25.2 billion in Q1 FY26, up from USD 22.5 billion in Q1 FY25.
- The United States emerged as the largest FDI source, with inflows of USD 5.61 billion, nearly tripling from USD 1.50 billion in the same quarter of FY25, despite tariff issues.
- Other major FDI sources were Singapore (USD 4.59 billion), Mauritius (USD 2.08 billion), Cyprus (USD 1.1 billion), UAE (USD 1 billion), Cayman Islands (USD 676 million), Netherlands (USD 667 million), Japan (USD 551 million), and Germany (USD 191 million).
- Karnataka received the highest FDI inflow of USD 5.69 billion during the quarter.
- It was followed by Maharashtra (USD 5.36 billion), Tamil Nadu (USD 2.67 billion), Gujarat (USD 1.2 billion), Haryana (USD 1.03 billion), Delhi (USD 1 billion), and Telangana (USD 395 million).
Rural India Trails Other Regions in Deposit and Credit Growth Over Past 25 Years-RBI data
- According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) have struggled to mobilise deposits and expand lending in rural India compared to semi-urban, urban, and metropolitan areas over the last 25 years.
- Loan outstanding in rural India grew 30 times in 25 years (till March-end 2025).
- This rural loan growth is slower than the overall average growth of about 41 times across all population groups.
- On the deposit side, rural deposits increased 20 times in the 25-year period.
- This growth lags the overall average deposit accretion of 28 times across all areas.
- The rural population share declined from 72% (2000) to 63% (2024).

Edelweiss Mutual Fund Gets Nod to Launch First Specialised Investment Fund by September 2025
- Edelweiss Mutual Fund has received approval for its first Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) and plans to launch it by September 2025.
- Nearly 10 fund houses have secured SIF licences, but none have launched a product yet.
- Quant Mutual Fund is also preparing to launch its first SIF in the equity category this month.
- Edelweiss’s product, the Altiva Hybrid Long-Short Fund, will be the first hybrid SIF in India.
- The fund will follow an absolute return strategy with allocation in fixed income, equity arbitrage, special situations, and low-risk derivatives.
- SIFs were introduced by SEBI in April 2025, allowing MFs to offer complex strategies like long-short equity and debt.
- The minimum investment in SIFs is ₹10 lakh per investor.

India MedTech Expo 2025 Organised in New Delhi
- The India MedTech Expo 2025 is being held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
- It is organised by the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, in association with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices (EPCMD), and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Key Highlights
- Shri Amit Agrawal, Secretary, DoP, called upon the MedTech industry to utilise growth opportunities and highlighted that India’s share in the global MedTech market is 2% currently, projected to rise to 17% by 2047.
- He also updated on the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma (PRIP) scheme and chaired the CEO Roundtable with global and domestic industry leaders and start-ups.
- Under the MedTech Mitra forum (a CDSCO–ICMR initiative), test licences are being issued to start-ups and innovators for product testing.
- The Expo is witnessing participation from 150+ international buyers from over 30 countries.
- It has strong industry backing from leading associations including AIMED, ADMI, MTAI, AMTZ, AMCHAM, APACMED, ADVAMED, APMEI, ASSOCHAM, CII, FICCI, INVEST INDIA, PHDCCI, NATHEALTH, USIBC, and USISPF, making it a major platform to boost India’s MedTech ecosystem.
Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates State-of-the-art Advanced Lithium-ion Battery Plant in Sohna, Haryana
- Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated TDK Corporation’s Advanced Technologies Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Battery Manufacturing Plant at Sohna, Haryana.
- The Minister called it a turning point in India’s electronics journey, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
- With this facility, Li-ion batteries used in mobile phones, wearables, hearables (watches, earbuds, AirPods), and laptops will now be manufactured domestically.
Key Highlights
- The plant will produce 20 crore (200 million) battery packs annually, meeting 40% of India’s annual demand of 50 crore packs.
- The facility has a huge scope for expansion and will further strengthen India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
- The factory has been set up under the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Scheme of the Government of India.
- The plant will create direct employment for about 5,000 people, with training provided at the AT Bawal plant.
- The Haryana Government supported the establishment of this electronics manufacturing facility.
- This inauguration is a step towards reducing import dependence and making India a global hub for electronics production.

Dassault Aviation Signs Deal to Raise Stake in Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited
- Dassault Aviation, the French aerospace major, has entered into an agreement to increase its stake in Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL).
- DRAL is a joint venture between Dassault Aviation and Reliance Aerostructure Ltd (RAL), a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure.
- Dassault Aviation will raise its stake in DRAL from 49% to 51%, as per a stock exchange filing by Reliance Infrastructure.
- The deal is valued at around ₹175.96 crore, based on an independent valuation.
- Reliance Aerostructure Ltd (RAL) and Dassault Aviation formed DRAL in 2017, which set up a manufacturing facility at Mihan, Nagpur later the same year.

- Launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2018, iDEX has emerged as a game-changer in the defence ecosystem. In a short span, it has gained momentum, fostering a growing community of start-ups in the sector. It is currently engaged with over 650 start-ups and MSMEs. So far, clearances for procurements worth over Rs 3,250 crore have been received from the Nodal Agencies for 50 products, and procurement orders worth Rs 1,652 crore have been placed for 36 products developed under the iDEX framework, showcasing its significant contribution to strengthening defence capabilities.

Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Coal India Limited Signed MoU for Empowering Tribal Students in Eklavya Model Residential Schools
- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Coal India Limited (CIL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) in New Delhi for upgradation of infrastructure and capacity building in 76 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.
- The MoU signing took place in the presence of Jual Oram, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, and G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal and Mines.
Key Highlights
- Coal India Limited sanctioned ₹10 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the project, to be implemented by NSTFDC in a time-bound manner.
- Provisions under the project include 1200 computers and 1200 UPS units, career counselling and mentorship for over 6,200 students of Classes 10 and 12, and installation of sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators to promote menstrual health and hygiene.
- The project is titled “Empowering Tribal Students in Eklavya Model Residential Schools through Digital Access, Career Mentorship, Menstrual Hygiene, and Teacher Capacity Building.”
- Objectives include bridging the digital divide, promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, ensuring health and dignity for girl students, and providing structured career mentorship to tribal students.
- At present, 479 Eklavya Model Residential Schools are functional across India, providing quality education, nutrition, healthcare, and development opportunities to Scheduled Tribe children.
- Union Ministers emphasized that the initiative will strengthen digital learning, improve educational outcomes, and empower tribal students in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Sports Authority of India NCSSR and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Sign MoU to Promote Indigenous Sports Science and Innovation
- Under the guidance of Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) National Centre of Sports Science Research (NCSSR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
- The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in sports sciences, advanced technology, and indigenous innovation.
- The initiative supports the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) vision and the campaign ‘Garv se Swadeshi’, focusing on minimizing dependence on imported sports tools and promoting home-grown solutions.

Indian Armed Forces leave for multilateral Exercise ZAPAD 2025 in Russia
- An Indian Armed Forces contingent of 65 personnel departed for the Mulino Training Ground, Nizhniy, Russia to participate in Exercise ZAPAD 2025 from September 10–16, 2025.
- The contingent includes 57 Indian Army personnel, 7 Indian Air Force personnel, and 1 Indian Navy personnel.
- The Indian Army contingent is led by a battalion of the KUMAON Regiment, along with troops from other arms and services.
- Exercise ZAPAD 2025 is a multilateral joint military exercise aimed at enhancing military cooperation, interoperability, and sharing of tactics, techniques, and procedures in conventional warfare and counter-terrorism operations.
- The exercise will focus on joint company-level operations in open and plain terrain, including joint planning, tactical drills, and special arms skills.
- The exercise will provide opportunities to hone joint operational capabilities, integrate emerging technologies, and operate in a multinational combat environment.
- Participation will strengthen India–Russia defence cooperation and promote camaraderie, collaboration, and mutual trust.

- The contract for 11 ACTCM Barges was signed on March 5, 2021, with M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, Thane, an MSME Shipyard.
- These barges have been indigenously designed and built in collaboration with an Indian Ship Design firm and the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
- Model testing for seaworthiness was conducted at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam.
- The shipyard has successfully delivered 10 out of 11 Barges, which are being used by the Indian Navy for operational evolutions.

- The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) revealed a detailed view of star birth in the young star cluster Pismis 24.
- Pismis 24 is located about 5,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Scorpius.
- It lies at the heart of the Lobster Nebula, one of the closest regions of massive star formation.
- The discovery provides unique insights into the formation and evolution of hot young stars.
- The James Webb Space Telescope is the world’s premier space science observatory.
- Webb is an international program led by NASA with its partners, ESA (European Space Agency) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency).

Abhimanyu Mishra Becomes Youngest to Defeat Reigning World Champion in Classical Chess
- Abhimanyu Mishra (16 years), chess prodigy from the United States, defeated World Champion Dommaraju Gukesh (19 years) in Round 5 of Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) Grand Swiss 2025 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
- With this, he became the youngest player to beat a reigning World Champion in classical chess, breaking Gata Kamsky’s 33-year-old record (defeated Garry Kasparov at 17).

National Forest Martyrs Day: September 11
- National Forest Martyrs Day is observed on the 11th of September of every year.
- This day is observed in order to honor those who sacrifice their life to save forests, wildlife, and jungles in India. Still, there are some people whose only source of living is the forest.
History
- In 2013, The Ministry of Environment and Forest announced that National Forest Martyrs Day is observed on the 11th of September every year.
- In 1730, during the period of Maharaja Abhay Singh in Rajasthan, he ordered to cut down of the Khejarli trees for wood. However, the people of the Bishnoi Community were against this order.
- When the army of Maharaja Abhay Singh started the process of cutting down the trees, a brave woman, Amrita Devi, stood against it. She told them to behead her instead of the Khejarli trees.
- Cruelly, the Maharaj’s men beheaded her followed by over 350 others. After hearing this news Maharaja stopped the order of cutting down the trees. He apologized and praised the Bishnoi community for their brave act.
- This incident took place on September 11, 1730, and was the main cause for the declaration of National Forest Martyrs Day on 11th September 2013.
