Department of Financial Services Secretary M. Nagaraju Reviews Public Sector Banks H1 FY 2025–26 Performance and Progress

  • The Secretary of Department of Financial Services (DFS) M. Nagaraju reviewed the H1 FY 2025–26 performance of PSBs (Public Sector Banks), assessing financial indicators, asset quality, recoveries, digital initiatives, and government scheme implementation.
  • PSBs reported ₹93,675 crore net profit, 3% advances growth, 9.6% deposit growth, and lowered Gross NPAs to 2.30% and Net NPAs to 0.45%, showing strong profitability and asset quality improvement.
  • Banks were advised to strengthen low-cost deposit mobilisation and increase credit flow to MSME and agriculture sectors, alongside better risk management, underwriting standards, and operational resilience.
  • In recoveries, NARCL (National Asset Reconstruction Company Limited) had acquired ₹1.62 lakh crore stressed debt with notable recoveries, and banks were urged to use BAANKNET and reinforce early warning systems for faster resolution.
  • The meeting also launched the Startup Loans module on JanSamarth Portal and released the PSB Manthan 2025 report outlining the future roadmap for PSBs.

Reserve Bank of India Fines Three Co-operative Banks for Violating Regulatory Norms

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed monetary penalties on three co-operative banks for regulatory non-compliance, signalling stricter supervision during Co-op Kumbh 2025.
  • Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank, Maharashtra fined ₹2 lakh for violating Section 20 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, which prohibits loans to directors/related parties.
  • Karaikudi Co-operative Town Bank, Tamil Nadu fined ₹1.5 lakh for violating capital adequacy norms and KYC guidelines, both essential for financial stability and anti–money laundering compliance.
  • District Co-operative Central Bank, Eluru (AP) fined ₹50,000 for KYC violations under Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) & 56 of the Banking Regulation Act.
  • Key legal provisions enforced: Section 20 (no lending to directors), Section 47A(1)(c) (RBI penalty powers), Sections 46(4)(i) & 56 (penalties applicable to co-operative banks).
  • RBI action highlights the need for discipline, transparency, and accountability in cooperative banking operations.
  • The enforcement act serves as a wake-up call for cooperative banks amid concerns over weak governance and lax compliance.

National Biodiversity Authority Releases ABS Funds to Odisha for Red Sanders Conservation

  • The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has released ₹29.40 lakh to the Odisha Forest Department under the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) mechanism for the conservation of Red Sanders (Pterocarpus santalinus).
  • The ABS amount was generated from benefit-sharing linked to Red Sanders wood logs sourced from the Parlakhemundi Forest Division, Gajapati District, Odisha.
  • These trees, over 100 years old, were originally planted by the Maharaja of Parlakhemundi and had naturally fallen during the 2018 cyclone.
  • The Odisha Forest Development Corporation later auctioned the fallen Red Sanders wood, generating ABS funds.
  • This release adds to the ongoing ABS disbursements made by NBA across India for conserving Red Sanders and other biological resources.
  • So far, NBA has released over ₹50 crore to:
    • Andhra Pradesh Forest Department
    • Karnataka Forest Department
    • Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board
      for Red Sanders conservation and sponsored research.
  • Additional ABS releases:
    • ₹3 crore to 198 farmers in Andhra Pradesh
    • ₹55 lakh to 18 farmers in Tamil Nadu
  • With this disbursement, Odisha becomes the 4th state to receive ABS funds linked to commercial use of Red Sanders.
  • Funds will be used to support protection, conservation, and sustainable use of Red Sanders across states.
  • The initiative demonstrates how benefit-sharing from commercial utilisation of biological resources can be channelled back into meaningful conservation efforts.

Golden Jubilee of New Mangalore Port Authority – Launch of Development Projects

Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Force – North Eastern States

  • The 1st Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Force of the eight North Eastern States, along with West Bengal, began at the Nagaland Police Complex, Chümoukedima.
  • The two-day conference is hosted by Nagaland Police in coordination with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the national mission ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’.
  • The conference focuses on supply reduction, enforcement, rehabilitation, and de-addiction to combat drug abuse.
  • Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma highlighted the North East as a critical front in India’s anti-drug efforts and emphasized challenges specific to the region.

    • Amendments to the NDPS Act, 1985

India’s Achievement in WHO Global TB Report 2025

  • India’s TB incidence dropped by 21% from 237 per lakh (2015) to 187 per lakh (2024), nearly double the global decline of 12%; PM Narendra Modi termed it a “remarkable momentum” toward a TB-Mukt Bharat.
  • TB mortality (HIV-negative cases) reduced from 28 per lakh (2015) to 21 per lakh (2024).
  • Treatment coverage reached 92%, among the highest globally; treatment success rate improved to 90%, surpassing the global average of 88%.
  • Missing TB cases fell sharply from 15 lakh (2015) to less than 1 lakh (2024).
  • Rifampicin-resistance testing coverage stands at 92%, ahead of the global average of 83%.
  • TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (launched Dec 2024) accelerated progress by:
    • Screening 19 crore vulnerable people
    • Diagnosing 24.5 lakh TB patients, including 8.61 lakh asymptomatic cases
    • Deploying AI-based handheld X-rays for rapid screening
    • Expanding NAAT and molecular diagnostic infrastructure
  • India aims to eliminate TB by 2025, ahead of the 2030 SDG target.
  • TB programme budget increased 10-fold in 9 years, boosting diagnosis, treatment, and community support.
  • Under Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana, ₹4,406 crore DBT has been transferred to 1.37 crore TB patients since April 2018.
  • 6.77 lakh Ni-kshay Mitras, including 2 lakh My Bharat youth, distributed 45 lakh nutrition baskets, strengthening psychosocial and nutritional support.

  • India has introduced personalized TB care, tailoring treatment for high-risk patients based on comorbidities, severity, and socioeconomic vulnerabilities.
  • ASHA workers are being trained to identify early warning signs to ensure timely referral and treatment initiation.

  • He is a public-policy expert with 30+ years of experience in fiscal management, governance, and tax policy.

  • Power Exchange India Limited (PXIL) appointed Vivek Singla as its new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 10 November 2025.
  • He succeeds Satyajit Ganguly, who held the position since June 2023.
  • Vivek Singla has over 35 years of experience in power generation, transmission, distribution, and renewable energy.
  • Previously, he was President and Head of Green Hydrogen & Transmission Businesses at ReNew Power, leading strategic initiatives in clean-energy domains.

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited  Signs Letter of Intent with Norway’s Redereit Stenersen to Construct Six IMO Type II Chemical Tankers Worth $220 Million

  • The Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Redereit Stenersen AS of Norway to build six IMO Type II chemical tankers worth USD 220 million.
  • The agreement includes an option for six additional vessels, raising the total project value to USD 400 million.
  • Each vessel will have 18,000 Deadweight Tonnage (DWT) and will be constructed at SDHI’s shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat.
  • The tankers are designed by Marinform AS (Norway) and StoGda Ship Design (Poland), and will be classified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) to meet international safety and environmental standards.
  • The design allows fuel conversion to methanol or LNG and supports battery capacity upgrades up to 5,000 kWh.
  • Built to Ice Class 1A specification, the tankers feature a hybrid propulsion system combining diesel-electric power with battery capability, ensuring lower emissions and improved energy efficiency.

C-DOT Signs Agreement with NAM InfoCom for Indigenous Mission Critical Communication (MCX) System

  • C-DOT has signed an agreement with NAM InfoCom Pvt. Ltd. to jointly develop an indigenous Mission Critical Communication System (MCX), strengthening India’s secure public safety and emergency response communication network.
  • The collaboration is part of C-DOT’s MCX Alliance, which currently involves 10 partner organizations, mainly startups, to build a complete MCX ecosystem.
  • The MCX solution is developed as per 3GPP standards, supporting:
    • Mission Critical Push-to-Talk (MCPTT)
    • Mission Critical Data (MCData)
    • Mission Critical Video (MCVideo)
  • The system ensures secure, reliable, low-latency, real-time voice/video/data communication over existing 4G and 5G networks, designed for Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) operations.
  • NAM InfoCom will develop the MC Video component, enhancing C-DOT’s existing MCX framework with:
    • Multi-stream video support
    • Recording features
    • Scalability for multiple group/one-to-one calls
    • Floor-control and non-floor-control modes
  • The solution is optimized for first responders, including:
    • Disaster management teams
    • Law enforcement
    • Defense operations
    • Emergency services
  • It is tailored for low latency, optimal bandwidth use, device adaptability, and minimal storage needs, making it suitable for diverse network conditions.
  • The joint project is fully funded under the C-DOT Collaborative Research Programme (CCRP).
    • C-DOT will provide R&D and system design expertise.
    • NAM InfoCom will contribute system integration, deployment, and customization capabilities.
  • CEO C-DOT, Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, emphasized that the initiative supports Atmanirbhar Bharat by promoting indigenous, secure communication technologies for critical national needs.
  • The agreement was signed in the presence of senior officials from both C-DOT and NAM InfoCom.

  • The collaboration focuses on developing India-specific standards, test frameworks, and strengthening India’s participation in ITU-T, ITU-D, ITU-R and other global standardisation bodies.
  • The MoU was signed by Shri Amit Kumar Srivastava (DDG – Mobile Technologies, TEC) and Dr. S. Ponnusamy (Registrar, SRMIST) in the presence of TEC and SRMIST leadership at SRMIST Kattankulathur, Chengalpattu.
  • The partnership forms a formal framework for joint research in next-generation telecom technologies and indigenous standardisation efforts.

India–Nepal Letter of Exchange on Transit Treaty (Nov 2025)

  • India and Nepal signed a Letter of Exchange (LoE) to amend the Protocol to the India–Nepal Treaty of Transit, aiming to boost bilateral trade and regional connectivity.
  • The LoE allows direct rail movement of containerized and bulk cargo via the Jogbani–Biratnagar rail corridor, strengthening Nepal’s access to Indian ports and global markets.
  • The liberalized transit rules now apply to major Indian ports including Kolkata and Visakhapatnam, enabling smoother multimodal cargo movement through Jogbani and Nautanwa (Sunauli).
  • This development supports India’s Neighbourhood First policy and enhances Nepal’s trade diversification through Indian port infrastructure.
  • The Jogbani–Biratnagar rail link, built with Indian grant assistance, was jointly inaugurated on 1 June 2023 by the Prime Ministers of both countries.

  • Banas Dairy and Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) signed an MoU in New Delhi to strengthen India’s potato value chain, aligning with the “Sahakar se Samriddhi” vision that promotes cooperation among cooperatives for rural prosperity.
  • The partnership aims to build a robust seed-to-market potato ecosystem, improving productivity and farmer incomes.
  • The MoU focuses on:
    • Production of certified, disease-free seed potatoes

  • Banas Dairy, part of the Amul cooperative network, will support with technical expertise, tissue culture laboratories, aeroponic systems, and market/logistics assistance under its “Beyond Dairy” initiative.
  • BBSSL will lead the production and supply of high-quality seed potatoes, using Banas Dairy’s advanced facilities to ensure certified seed standards.
  • The initiative reflects the Ministry of Cooperation’s efforts under Union Minister Amit Shah to strengthen agricultural value chains, boost self-reliance in seed production, and enhance farmer income.
  • At the signing event at Atal Akshay Urja Bhavan, senior officials highlighted the collaboration as a major step in modernizing agriculture and reducing dependence on imported seed potatoes.

Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs and WNS Global Services Launch Ybrant Programme on CSR, ESG, and Sustainability

  • IICA (Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs) and WNS Global Services launched the IICA–WNS Ybrant CSR, ESG & Sustainability Program on 11 November 2025 to promote sustainability-focused leadership.
  • Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh highlighted the program as a major step toward developing sustainability-driven and socially responsible leaders.
  • The six-month program features 22.5 hours of academic sessions and 18 hours of fieldwork, covering 15 modules on CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), sustainability, impact assessment, and governance.
  • Over 250 students from institutions like IIM Shillong, CHRIST University, and Symbiosis International attended the launch, which ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ankita Sharma.

Indian Space Research Organisation Successfully Conducts Main Parachute Test for Gaganyaan Crew Module at Babina, Uttar Pradesh

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted a Main Parachute test for the Gaganyaan Crew Module at Babina Field Firing Range, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh (UP), as part of Integrated Main Parachute Airdrop Tests (IMAT).

Key Highlights :

  • The test validated the parachute system, crucial for the safe landing of astronauts during re-entry and touchdown of India’s maiden human spaceflight mission.
  • A simulated Crew Module mass was dropped from 2.5 km altitude using IAF’s Ilyushin (IL)-76 aircraft.
  • The parachute system consists of 10 parachutes of 4 types: 2 Apex Cover Separation Parachutes, 2 Drogue Parachutes, and 3 Pilot Parachutes deploying 3 Main Parachutes for deceleration and safe touchdown. (The system has redundancy: two of the three main parachutes are sufficient for a safe landing).
  • The test simulated an asymmetric dis-reefing, where one main parachute opened with a delay to assess structural integrity under uneven load (a critical load scenario).
  • Reefed inflation was used, where parachutes partially open (reefing) and then fully deploy (disreefing) using a pyro device.
  • Organisations involved included Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), ADRDE, DRDO, IAF, and Indian Army (IA).
  • In August 2025, the Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT–01) successfully validated portions of the parachute system.
