To commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has launched Mission SHAKTTI (School based Health Awareness, Knowledge Test and Training Initiative) in collaboration with National Gandhi Museum and Directorate of Education, Govt. of Delhi. This initiative is to create awareness among school children about health.

Under this program ICMR scientists and officers are visiting schools for active interaction with the school kids to aware them regarding value for good health.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India launched ‘LaQshya’ (Labour room Quality improvement Initiative) Initiative to improve quality of care in labor room and maternity operation theatres in public health facilities.

It aims to reduce preventable maternal and newborn mortality, morbidity, and stillbirths associated with the care around delivery in the Labour room and Maternity Operation Theatre and ensure respectful maternity care.

It will be implemented in government Medical Colleges (MCs), District Hospitals (DHs), high delivery load Sub- District Hospitals (SDHs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) with over 100 deliveries/month ( 60 in hills and desert areas).

It is the largest diamond producer in the world by volume. Argyle is best known as the source of about 90% of the world’s prized pink diamonds.

They also discussed the Draft MGC Plan of Action (2019-22) for adoption in the 10th MGC Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok on 1 August 2019.

India’s assistance to Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) under the MGC Quick Impact Project Scheme (QIPS) since its inception in 2014 is moving at a steady pace. A total of 24 projects have been completed so far, including 15 in Cambodia and 9 in Vietnam at a cost of USD 1.2 million, generating significant positive impact among beneficiary communities. Other notable initiatives under Mekong Ganga Cooperation include the MGC Asian Traditional Textile Museum (MGC ATTM) in Siem Reap, Cambodia and the Common Archival Resource Centre (CERC) at Nalanda University, Rajgir.

Well-known breast surgeon and Padma Shri awardee P Raghu Ram has been conferred the Honorary Fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Thailand.

Raghu Ram, also the president-elect of the Association of Surgeons of India, received the honour at the 44th Annual Scientific Congress of the Royal College in Pattaya.

Over 2,000 delegates from all over Thailand and world-renowned surgeons from 20 countries are participating in the conference. Raghu Ram was honoured in recognition of efforts that paved the way for improving the delivery of breast healthcare in India.

A Russian and European all-sky-survey satellite is safely in space following a successful launch on a Proton rocket.

The Spektrum-Röntgen-Gamma mission, also known as Spektr-RG, is a joint project between the Russian space agency, Roscosmos, and the German space agency, DLR. Spektr-RG launched to space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The spacecraft is expected to detect 100,000 galaxy clusters, 3 million supermassive black holes, tens of thousands of star-forming galaxies, the presence of plasma (superheated gas) and many more types of objects.

The observatory includes two X-ray mirror telescopes, called ART-XC and eROSITA. ART-XC (a Russian payload) will examine the higher energies of X- rays, up to 30 keV, while eROSITA (Extended Roentgen Survey with an Imaging Telescope Array) is optimized for an energy range of 0.5 to 10 keV.
