India’s Sovereign Credit Rating Raised to BBB+ (Stable) by Japan’s Rating and Investment Agency
- The Government of India welcomed the decision by Japanese credit rating agency Rating and Investment Information (R&I) to upgrade India’s long-term sovereign credit rating to ‘BBB+’ from ‘BBB’, with a “Stable” Outlook.
- This marks the third sovereign credit rating upgrade in 2025, following S&P’s upgrade to ‘BBB’ (from BBB-) in August 2025 and Morningstar DBRS’ upgrade to ‘BBB’ (from BBB (low)) in May 2025.
- R&I’s India sovereign rating review (Sept 19, 2025) cites support for India’s position as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies, driven by demographic dividend, robust domestic demand, and sound government policies.
- R&I recognised progress in fiscal consolidation, supported by buoyant tax revenues, rationalisation of subsidies, and manageable debt levels along with high growth.
- The report also highlighted strengthened external stability, reflected in modest current account deficit, stable surpluses in services and remittances, low external debt-to-GDP ratio, and sufficient forex reserves.

Reserve Bank of India issues new guidelines for Payment Aggregators and standards for Payment Gateways to boost digital payment security
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued regulatory guidelines for Payment Aggregators (PAs) and baseline technology standards for Payment Gateways (PGs) to enhance safety, transparency, and resilience in digital payments.
Key Highlights :
- Payment Aggregators (PAs), being entities that handle funds, will be directly regulated, while Payment Gateways (PGs) as technology providers are encouraged to voluntarily follow RBI’s security recommendations.
- Non-bank PAs must obtain RBI authorisation under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, be incorporated in India, and maintain a minimum net worth of ₹15 crore at application, to be increased to ₹25 crore by the third financial year, and maintained thereafter.
- PAs must be professionally managed and comply with fit and proper criteria for promoters and directors, with any change in management reported to RBI within 15 days.
- Customer funds collected by PAs must be kept in an escrow account with a scheduled commercial bank.
- Banks are exempt from RBI authorisation to act as PAs, but non-bank entities must apply via RBI’s online portal, while entities regulated by other financial regulators must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) within 45 days.
- PAs are barred from using ATM PIN as an authentication factor for card-not-present transactions. They cannot place transaction limits on payment modes or engage in marketplace business.
- A PA holding a Certificate of Authorisation (CoA) from RBI and already operating as PA-P must inform RBI for issuance of a revised CoA.
SMFG India Credit partners with PhonePe to offer collateral-free credit to merchants
- Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) firm SMFG India Credit (SMICC) has partnered with PhonePe to provide collateral-free credit to merchants.
- The partnership will offer Merchant Cash Advance (MCA) loans to registered merchants on the PhonePe platform.
- The scheme primarily targets merchants in Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns, supporting small businesses in semi-urban and rural India.
- The collaboration helps SMFG India Credit (SMICC) strengthen its role as a leading lender in the MCA space.
Indus Appstore surpasses 100 million devices, fueled by Gen Z and Tier 3 adoption
- Indus Appstore, India’s Android app marketplace launched by PhonePe, has crossed 100 million devices.
- The app store’s localisation feature allows discovery of apps in 12 Indian languages along with English.
- Around 40% of users browse the app store in regional languages, mainly Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Gujarati.
- The platform has a strong presence in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana.
- Gen Z (18–27 years) forms 33.7% of users, and together with Gen Y (27–44 years) accounts for 93.5% of users under 45.
- The core user base is a 28–44-year-old male from Tier 3 cities, with 70.6% of users coming from these regions.
- Social media apps are the most popular category, followed by communication, entertainment, and finance.
Paytm rolls out UPI credit line ‘Paytm Postpaid’ in collaboration with Suryoday Small Finance Bank
- Paytm has launched a credit line on UPI called Paytm Postpaid, in partnership with Suryoday Small Finance Bank.
- The facility offers short-term, interest-free credit for up to 30 days, repayable the following month.
- Users can use Paytm Postpaid for online shopping, UPI-based payments, bill payments, recharges, and bookings on the Paytm app.
- The initiative is powered by NPCI and leverages Paytm’s UPI payment infrastructure.
India’s August 2025 exports rise 9.34% to over USD 69 billion
- India’s total exports (Merchandise and Services) in August 2025 stood at USD 69+ billion, showing a 9.34% growth compared to August 2024.
- Export growth was mainly driven by Electronic Goods (25.93%), Gems & Jewellery (15.57%), Engineering Goods (4.91%), Petroleum Products (6.54%), and Drugs & Pharmaceuticals (6.94%).
- Electronic Goods exports increased by 26%, rising from USD 2.32 billion in August 2024 to USD 2.93 billion in August 2025.
- India’s cumulative exports during April–August 2025 reached USD 349+ billion, registering a 6.18% growth compared to the same period last year.
- Top export destinations in August 2025 were the UAE, USA, Netherlands, Hong Kong, and China.
- On the imports side, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Iraq, and Qatar recorded positive growth in August 2025 compared to last year.

Tamil Nadu Becomes First State to Issue Identity Cards to Women Self-Help Group Members

Competition Commission of India clears JSW Paints’ acquisition of up to 75% stake in Akzo Nobel India
- The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has cleared JSW Paints’ proposal to acquire up to 75% stake in Akzo Nobel India.
- In June 2025, JSW Paints announced it would buy a 74.76% stake in Akzo Nobel India for nearly ₹9,000 crore, followed by an open offer to acquire another 25% from the market for up to ₹4,000 crore.
- The acquisition will make JSW Paints the fourth-largest player in India’s paint industry.

- The maiden bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and the Hellenic Navy concluded on 18 September 2025 in the Mediterranean Sea.
- The exercise was conducted in two phases: a harbour phase (13–17 September 2025 at Salamis Naval Base) and a sea phase (17–18 September 2025).
- The Indian Navy was represented by the guided missile stealth frigate INS Trikand.
- During the harbour phase, activities included cross-deck visits, professional interactions, a pre-sail conference, and a cultural exchange showcasing India’s traditions.
- The sea phase involved complex drills such as night VBSS operations, replenishment-at-sea, joint Anti-Submarine Warfare, coordinated gun firing, and cross-deck helicopter operations.

Health Minister JP Nadda unveils AIIMS mobile app for indoor navigation
- Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda launched a mobile app “AIIMS Disha” to help patients, visitors, and staff with real-time hospital navigation at AIIMS Delhi.
- The app is based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons and AI routing algorithms, enabling turn-by-turn navigation inside the hospital.
- AIIMS Disha provides 2D digital maps with detailed floor plans and points of interest such as OPD, diagnostic centres, pharmacies, and billing counters.
- The app offers customised wheelchair routes, voice and visual navigation (multilingual and accessibility-enabled), and multi-floor/multi-building routing.
- Live heat maps allow crowd flow management, improving operational efficiency and reducing wait times.
- Search features are available for doctors, labs, pharmacies, billing counters, and amenities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opens three-day Combined Commanders’ Conference at Eastern Command Headquarters in Kolkata
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the three-day Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at the Eastern Command headquarters of the Indian Army at Vijay Durg (erstwhile Fort William) in Kolkata.
- This is the first CCC after Operation Sindoor, a tri-services campaign that targeted terror infrastructure across the LoC and inside Pakistan.
- The Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) is a biennial apex military brainstorming forum that brings together civil and military leadership to discuss strategic, institutional, and operational priorities.
- The theme of the 2025 CCC is “Year of Reforms: Transforming for the Future”, with focus on reforms, integration, technological modernisation, and operational preparedness.
- The previous CCC was held in Bhopal in 2023.

- The project will include 1000 megawatts (MW) of solar energy and 200 megawatts (MW) of wind energy capacity in RVUNL’s Renewable Energy Park.
- Marks Oil India’s major foray into renewable energy, beyond its traditional oil and gas operations.

- The joint venture will leverage Oil India’s expertise in large-scale project execution and RVUNL’s regional experience and infrastructure.
- Aim: Supply clean electricity to Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) and commercial users, while also exploring green hydrogen and storage-based solutions.
- The initiative supports India’s renewable energy target of 500 GW by 2030, using a hybrid model of solar and wind to improve grid stability and efficiency.

- The partnership is part of the National Critical Mineral Mission, aimed at ensuring self-reliance in mineral supply chains and securing raw materials for energy, technology, and industry.

- The MoU covers exploration, mining, beneficiation, and processing of copper and other critical minerals, combining OIL’s resource exploration expertise with HCL’s mining and refining capability.

- The Red Pandas were first described in the year 1825. Red Pandas belong to the carnivore family but it rarely eats meat.
- In 2010, International Red Panda Day (IRPD) was launched by the Red Panda Network (RPN).
- The first International Red Panda Day was observed on 18th September 2010.
- Red Panda Network, whose headquarters is in Eugene, Oregon, has been actively participating in order to protect Red Pandas.
- Red Pandas sleep more than half a day. They communicate with each other by head bobbing and trail arching.

History
- The United Nations General Assembly declared the International Day of Peace in order to strengthen the ideas of peace.
- In the beginning, the date chosen was the opening day of the annual sessions of the General Assembly (the third Tuesday of September) but later it was declared that the 21st September is observed as International Day of Peace.
- In 1983, the office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Pathways to Peace (PTP) submitted a “We the Peoples” initiative Annual Report to the UN, summarising the Peace Day activities.

- Alzheimer’s disease was first diagnosed in an old German lady in 1901 by Alois Alzheimer, a German Psychiatrist. This illness was named after the German Psychiatrist.
- When Alzheimer’s Disease International celebrated its 10th anniversary in 1994, the Association declared that World Alzheimer’s Day was observed on the 21st September of every year.
- Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death and in all over the world the 7th deadliest disease.
- The early symptom of the disease is an inability to recall the events or discussions or our daily activities. It may affect physical health too.

History
- This day is observed in order to remember a 12-year-old girl, Melinda Rose. She is from Canada and was diagnosed with Askin’s Tumour which is a rare form of blood cancer in 1994.
- After the diagnosis of Cancer, the doctors said that she could live only for a week, but due to her willpower, she could live for six months.
- Being 12 years old her courage and willpower set an example for other cancer patients. She wrote little notes, and poetry for other cancer patients and gave them hope.
- Rose is a symbol of love and care. So at least on this day we can spend our time and give some hope to cancer patients.
