What is the news :

  • The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has constituted an Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) promotion task force.

  • Headed by the I&B Secretary, the task force will submit its first action plan within 90 days. It has representation from the industry, academia and State governments.

  • Earlier, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget speech, had announced the creation of AVGC promotion task force.
  • The AVGC Promotion Task Force will submit its first action plan within 90 days.

Role and responsibility of task force :

  • The body will frame a national AVGC policy; recommend national curriculum framework for graduation, post-graduation and doctoral courses in AVGC-related sectors; and facilitate skilling initiatives in collaboration with academic institutions, vocational training centres and industry.

AVGC sector in india :

  • The I&B Ministry said the AVGC sector in the country had the potential to become the torch bearer of “Create in India” and “Brand India”.
  • India has the potential to capture 5% (about $40 billion) of the global market share by 2025, with an annual growth of around 25-30% and creating over 1,60,000 new jobs annually.
  • The task force comprises Secretaries of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.
  • The industry representatives are Biren Ghosh of Technicolor India, Ashish Kulkarni of Punaryug Artvision, Jesh Krishna Murthy of Anibrain, Keitan Yadav of Redchillies VFX, Chaitanya Chinchlikar of Whistling Woods International, Kishore Kichili of Zynga India, and Neeraj Roy of Hungama Digital Media Entertainment.
  • It also includes representation from the State governments of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana, heads of education bodies such as the All India Council of Technical Education, National Council of Educational Research and Training, and industry bodies such as the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Confederation of Indian Industry and the Media and Entertainment Skills Council.

The Terms of Reference of the Task Force include the following:

  • Framing of a national AVGC policy,
  • Recommend national curriculum framework for Graduation, Post-Graduation and Doctoral courses in AVGC related sectors,
  • Facilitate skilling initiatives in collaboration with academic institutions, vocational training centers & Industry,
  • Boost employment opportunities,
  • Facilitate promotion and market development activities to extend global reach of Indian AVGC Industry,
  • Enhance exports and recommend incentives to attract FDI in AVGC sector.

Broadcast Seva Portal for broadcasters Launched by Shri Anurag Thakur:

  • Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur launched the Broadcast Seva Portal in New Delhi, heralding a new chapter in Ease of Doing Business in the Broadcasting sector.
  • Broadcast Seva Portal is an online portal solution for speedy filing and processing of applications of broadcasters for various kinds of licenses, permissions, registrations, etc.
  • The Broadcast Seva Portal will reduce the turnaround time of applications and at the same time will help applicants track the progress.
  • This portal will reduce the human interface that was required earlier and thus add to capacity building of the Ministry and will be a major step towards Ease of Doing Business.
  • It will boost the business environment and empower the entire broadcast sector by directly benefiting more than 900 Satellite TV Channels, 70 Teleport operators, 1700 Multi-service operators, 350 Community Radio Stations (CRS), 380 Private FM Channels and others.”
  • The portal would bring Transparency, Accountability & Responsiveness in the ecosystem and all information will be available on a single dashboard. Various services and features of the portal includes:
  • End-to-end processing
  • Integration with payment system (Bharat Kosh)
  • Integration with E-Office and stakeholder ministries
  • Analytics, Reporting and Management Information System (MIS)
  • Integrated Helpdesk
  • Application forms and status tracking
  • Downloading letters/orders from the portal itself
  • Alerts to stakeholders (SMS/E-Mails)

Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur launches TEJAS skilling project at Dubai Expo:

  • Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur launched TEJAS (Training for Emirates Jobs And Skills), a Skill India International Project to train overseas Indias.
  • The project is aimed at skilling, certification and overseas employment of Indians.
  • Tejas is aimed at creating pathways to enable Indian workforce to get equipped for skill and market requirements in UAE.

National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai reopens for public

  • The National Museum of Indian Cinema  (NMIC),  that had remained closed during the Covid pandemic,  has reopened to public.

17th MIFF to be held from 29 May to 4 June, 2022

  • The 17th edition of Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short Fiction and Animation films (MIFF-2022) will be held from 29 May to 4 June, 2022 at the Films Division complex, Mumbai.

ABU Robocon 2022 comes to New Delhi

  • Doordarshan will be hosting the international finals of Robocon 2022 in August 2022.
  • The Robot competition, which is organised by Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and hosted by different member countries every year, will be held in New Delhi in 2022.
  • ABU Robocon 2021 was hosted by China wherein the international Robocon contest was held on December 12, 2021.
  • Teams from Nirma University and Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad, who were the India finalists, participated in the international contest from India.
