Chartered Accountants Day

  • Charted Accountants Day (CA Day) is celebrated on 1st July every year to commemorate the finding of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) by the parliament of India.
  • ICAI is also the second biggest accounting organization in the world.
  • In the year 1949, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) was established on this day.

National Doctors’ Day

  • National Doctors’ Day is celebrated on July 1 all across India to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on July 1, 1882 and died on the same date in 1962, aged 80 years.
  • India has shown remarkable improvements in the medical field and July 1 pays a tribute to all the doctors who have made relentless efforts towards achieving this goal irrespective of the odds.

GST Day

  • India is observingJuly 1, 2019 as the GST Day to mark the second anniversary of the new indirect tax regime, Goods and Services Tax (GST), which was rolled out in the intervening night of June 30 and July 1 in 2017.
  • The government will also introduce the new return system on a trial basis on July 1, 2019. It will come into force from 1 October 2019 on a mandatory basis.

World UFO Day

  • World UFO Day is observed on 2nd July every year. It was founded by the UFO hunter Haktan Akdogan.
  • The first World UFO Day was celebrated in 2001 and spread awareness among people to gaze at the heavens scanning for unidentified flying objects.

Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat to launch Jal Shakti Abhiyan

  • Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will launch the Jal Shakti Abhiyan in Delhi, amidst rampant water scarcity prevailing in many parts of the country.
  • The scheme aims to make water conservation and promotion of irrigation efficiency a mass movement.
  • The Jal Shakti Abhiyan has been launched in two phases. The first phase is 1st July to 15th September and is for all participating States and the second phase will be between 1st October to 30th November for States with retreating monsoon.
  • Under Jal Shakti Abhiyan, focus will be on 256 water stressed districts and 1,592 water stressed blocks.
  • There are five key intervention areas under the movement including water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse, borewell recharge structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation.

NRC deadline extended by 1 month; final list to be published on July 31

  • The Centre has given one month extension to complete the enumeration process for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam by July 31.
  • The National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the state of Assam has been taken as the exercise to enumerate citizens in Assam. The exercise aims at identifying illegal immigrants in the state of Assam that borders Bangladesh.
  • When the draft NRC was published on July 30 last year, there was a huge controversy over the exclusion of 4 million people from it. The draft NRC included the names of 29 million people out of the total 32.9 million applications. The names of over a lakh more people were also excluded in a list published last month.

First Ever India International Cooperatives Trade Fair (IICTF) to be Held in New Delhi in October 2019

  • The first ever India International Cooperatives Trade Fair (IICTF) is going to be held from October 11 to October 13, 2019 at Pragati Maidan.
  • The Trade Fair is aimed at promoting cooperative to cooperative trade within India and abroad leading to enhanced rural and farm prosperity.
  • The fair will provide an immense opportunity to the participants to collaborate and explore business opportunities with the Cooperative Organizations from India and abroad.

Karnam Sekar takes over as IOB MD and CEO from R Subramaniakumar

  • Former Dena Bank MD Karnam Sekar has taken over as the new Managing Director and CEO of Indian Overseas Bank.
  • He replaces R Subramaniakumar, who was instrumental in taking measures to turn around the bank, which has been reporting loses due to high NPA.
  • His appointment will come into effect on July 1, 2019.

N.S. Vishwanathan reappointed RBI deputy governor for one year

  • The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved the extension of Vishwanathan’s term as RBI deputy governor by one year with effect from 4 July this year
  • Vishwanathan is in charge of regulation of banks, non-banking finance companies and cooperative banks

Bharti Airtel completes merger of Tata Tele Services

  • Bharti Airtel and Bharti Hexacom announced the merger of the consumer mobile businesses (CMB) of Tata Teleservices (TTSL) and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (TTML) with the two Bharti Group companies.
  • This move spells better synergies and increased customer base for the country’s third-largest mobile service provider.
  • Department of Telecommunications to take the merger on record and approval of the schemes of arrangement by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT)-Delhi and NCLT-Mumbai.

  • Dr Krishna Saksena launched her new book ‘Whispers of Time’ at India International Centre in New Delhi.
  • The book was unveiled by Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister of Textiles and Minister of Women and Child Development.
  • Lady Kishwar Desai, renowned Author and Columnist, was also present at the event

ITBP DIG Aparna Kumar becomes first civil servant to summit Mount Denali in North America

  • Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Aparna Kumar has become the first civil servant to scale Mount Denali, the highest peak in North America.
  • This was her 7th summit in her ‘7 Summits’ challenge.
  • She also became the first woman IPS DIG and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer to successfully complete the South Pole expedition.

Indian pro boxer Vaibhav Yadav wins WBC Asia title

  • Indian pro boxer Vaibhav Yadav became the WBC Asia silver welterweight champion after defeating Thailand’s Fahpetch Singmanassak in the title bout held in Pattaya, Thailand.
  • The fight was conducted by the Asian Boxing Council and approved by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Dean Mascarenhas wins the South India Rally of 2019 INRC

  • The 2019 Indian National Rally Championship kicked off with South India Rally in Chennai.
  • Dean Mascarenhas won the South India Rally beating the late resurgence from ARRC champion Gaurav Gill.

Former India Cricketer Rakesh Shukla passed away

  • Rakesh Shukla, former India leg-spinner, passed away in Delhi. He was 71. He had represented Delhi and Bihar in First-Class cricket and earned his Test cap against Sri Lanka in 1982.
  • Shukla played 121 first class matches, claimed 295 wickets and aggregated 3798 runs.

Odia film producer Keshav Rout passes away

  • Eminent Odia film producer Keshav Chandra Rout passed away. He was 68.
  • Apart from producing several popular Odia films, Rout had also made a number of television serials.
