Government notifies move to allow 100% Foreign Direct Investment in insurance sector

Government Revises Wheat Stock Limits to Ensure Food Security
- The Government of India imposed stock limits on wheat for Traders/Wholesalers, Retailers, Big Chain Retailers, and Processors across all States and Union Territories.
- The order was issued under the Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs (Amendment) Order, 2025 on 27 May 2025, applicable until 31 March 2026.

- Processors – reduced from 70% to 60% of Monthly Installed Capacity (MIC) × remaining months of FY 2025-26.
- Entities must declare/update wheat stock every Friday on the portal https://foodstock.dfpd.gov.in.
- Violations will attract punitive action under Section 6 & 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
- Entities holding wheat beyond revised limits must reduce stock within 15 days of notification.
- Production & Procurement:
- Total wheat production in 2024-25 stood at 1175.07 LMT.
- The Central Government procured 300.35 LMT in RMS 2025-26 through FCI and State agencies.

- She played a key role in the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for farmers for fertilizer subsidy.
- At MTNL, she led digital transformation through online bill payments and payment kiosks.
- She contributed to the revival of Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL).

Centre names ex-RBI Governor Urjit Patel as Executive Director at International Monetary Fund
- The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has appointed former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Urjit Patel as Executive Director (ED) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a period of three years or until further orders.
- Urjit Patel will replace K V Subramanian, whose tenure was cut short by the government due to alleged impropriety over book promotion.
- The IMF Executive Board has 25 directors, and India is part of a four-country constituency along with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.
- Urjit Patel had earlier served as the 24th RBI Governor (2016–2018), succeeding Raghuram Rajan, but resigned citing personal reasons.
- During his RBI tenure, Patel often clashed with the Government of India over high interest rates despite falling inflation (below 1.5%).
- Patel holds a PhD in Economics from Yale University and has served in roles such as Deputy Governor of RBI, Chairman of NIPFP (2020), and Vice President (Investment Operations) at AIIB.

Army Hospital R&R Conducts First-Ever Robotic Laser Cataract Surgery Using ALLY System
- Army Hospital Research and Referral (AHRR), on August 28, 2025, became the first government institute in India and the second in South Asia to perform Robotic Custom Laser Cataract Surgery.
- The surgery was performed using the ALLY Adaptive Cataract Treatment System and marked AHRR’s first-ever Femto-second Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS), which is a robotic, bladeless, and computer-guided eye surgery.
- The procedure was conducted by Brigadier SK Mishra on a 61-year-old patient.
- FLACS automates key steps like corneal incisions, capsulotomy, and cataract fragmentation with micron-level precision, which ensures greater safety and accuracy.
- This achievement demonstrates the Armed Forces’ commitment to providing advanced healthcare for its personnel and their families.

- The sector provides employment to over 5 lakh people, primarily in MSME clusters located in Meerut, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Delhi-NCR.
- India is the 3rd largest sports goods manufacturer in Asia and the 21st largest exporter globally, with exports worth USD 523 million in 2023–24 to over 90 countries.
