Danielle McGahey, 29, is set to become the first transgender woman player to play in international cricket. For the first time in international cricket, a transgender woman player will feature in ICC-related tournaments. The right-hand batter from Australia, who moved to Canada in 2020, had fulfilled the eligibility criteria for male-to-female (MTF) transition, per ICC.McGahey is named in Canada’s squad for the Women’s T20 Americas Qualifier, the pathway tournament to the T20 World Cup 2024. McGahey has been picked for the four-team Americas qualifier in September at which Canada will face Brazil, Argentina and USA, with the winners advancing to the global qualifier for the 2024 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

India was crowned Asian Hockey 5s champions after beating Pakistan 6-4 after penalty shootouts in the final. This is the first time in three meetings that India has beaten Pakistan in the Hockey 5s format. From 2-4 down in the second half, India took the game to the shootout after two goals from Mohammed Raheel. In the shootout, Pakistan missed all their chances while Maninder Singh hit the hammer in the coffin to score India’s second goal in the shootout.

‘Mahendragiri’ is the 7th stealth frigate under Project 17A of the Indian Navy, and the 4th constructed by MDL. It is named after a mountain peak in Eastern Ghats located in the state of Orissa.The ship was named by Dr Sudesh Dhankhar, wife of Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar who was the chief guest on the occasion.Mahendragiri has been built using Integrated Construction methodology which involves hull blocks with parallel outfitting. Up-front tax devolutions and higher expenditure pushed the Centre’s fiscal deficit to Rs 6.1 lakh crore or 34 percent of the budget estimate during the April-July period of the current fiscal (2023-24). This is nearly 78 percent higher than lastfiscal.The deficit during the corresponding period of the last fiscal was ₹3.4 lakh crore or 20.5 percent of the budget estimate. Coal Production in the country grew by 12.85 percent to 67.65 Million Tonnes in the month of August this year as compared to 59.95 Million Tonnes in the same month of last year. The Ministry of Coal in a statement said that it has achieved a substantial surge in overall coal production during the month of August 2023. It also said that the production of Coal India Limited (CIL) has risen to 52.27 million Tonnes in August 2023 as compared to 46.17 Million Tonnes in August 2022 with a growth of 13.21 percent. The cumulative coal production till August 2023 has also seen a quantum jump to around 349 million Tonnes.
