Dairy technology provider Stellapps’ fintech arm mooPay Private Limited, in partnership with IBISA Network, HDFC ERGO and Gramcover, has launched a unique heat Index-based insurance plan for farmers.

Key Highlights :

The cover provides financial compensation to farmers of mooMark, the dairy supply chain arm of Stellapps, to offset income loss due to a fall in milk productivity during heat waves in summer.

The cover guarantees insurance benefits for farmers if, over 60 days starting from May 1, 2023 temperatures exceed the specified limits for a predetermined number of days, with region-specific parameters.

The claim settlement process is simple and hassle-free.

The insurer takes the data of temperature trends for the insured period from a pre-agreed public database and compensates the claimant as per the prescribed benefits slab.

Each insured cattle is eligible for a cover of a maximum of ₹2,000.

Currently, the insurance cover extends to one cattle per household.

In the first phase, mooMark is offering this insurance as a part of its loyalty programme.

This policy covers around 7,000 farmers, in 5 districts, across 4 States for a total sum assured of over ₹1.3 crore.

Farmers are informed about this plan through village-level collection centres and Stellapps’ smartFarms app.

Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras Research Park (IITMRP) and IIT Madras Incubation Cell (IITMIC) to introduce voice-banking solutions to eliminate language barriers across India.

The initiative of RBI and IIT Madras aims at conducting basic banking transactions through voice-controls in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English, in the initial stage.

Voice-banking will assist the illiterate and the visually impaired in their banking needs.

State Bank of India (SBI), Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra and IDFC First conducted a codefest on voice-banking called ‘Vaulter Voice’ at the IIT Madras Research Park.

From the registrations received, IITMRP has shortlisted 9 teams to work on a 6-hour codefest for solutions.

President of IIT Madras Research Park, Ashok Jhunjhunwala, stated that a pilot project should be available in 12 to 18 months.

Bajaj Allianz Life, one of India’s leading private life insurers, has launched an exclusive term insurance plan for Type 2 diabetic and pre-diabetic individuals called Bajaj Allianz Life Diabetic Term Plan Sub 8 HbA1c.

This is the first of-its-kind protection plan in the Indian life insurance industry designed especially for Type 2 diabetic & pre-diabetic individuals.

Key Highlights :

According to the insurer, India is referred to as ‘diabetes capital of the world’ with the diabetic population in the country expected to hit an alarming mark of 69.9 million by 2025 and 80 million by 2030.

It offers life insurance coverage by factoring in the nuances of the health condition of those having diabetes.

National Electricity Plan (NEP) (Volume-1 Generation) has been notified by Central Electricity Authority for the period 2022-32.

The plan document released through e-gazette includes a review of last five years (2017-22), a detailed plan for the next five years (2022-27) and prospective plan for next five years (2027-32).

As per 20th Electric Power Survey (EPS) demand f or electricity all India peak demand and electrical energy requirement are estimated to be 277.2 GW and 1907.8 BU for 2026-27 and 366.4 GW and 2473.8 BU for 2031-32 respectively.

Energy requirement and peak demand include adoption of electric vehicles, installation of solar roof tops, production of green hydrogen, impact of Saubhagya scheme etc.

Based on the generation planning done under the scope of preparation of National Power Plan for 2022-27, there is a possibility of installing 6,09,591 MW capacity for 2026-27.

This includes 2,73,038 conventional capacity and 3,36,553 MW of renewable energy-based capacity as well as BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) capacity of 8,680 MW/ 34,720 Mega Watt-hour (MWh).

Potentially 9,00,422 MW capacity is estimated to be installed by the year 2031-32.

The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of a Regional Office of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in New Delhi.

India has signed an agreement with Universal Postal Union to undertake UPU’s development cooperation and technical assistance activities in the region.

The approval to set up the regional office of the UPU will enable India to play an active role in various organizations in the postal sector to promote developing countries (South-South) and triangular cooperation.

India will provide a Field Project Expert, staff and office set-up for UPU’s regional office.

This initiative will help in expanding India’s diplomatic footprint and help in strengthening ties with other countries.

It will help in enhancing India’s presence at the global postal forums.

This regional office will prepare and implement Projects on capacity building and training, improving efficiency and quality of postal services, enhancement of Postal technology, etc. for the region.

Iraq’s prime minister Mr Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced plans for a $17 billion regional transportation project intended to facilitate the flow of goods from Asia to Europe.

The planned Development Road project would facilitate the movement of goods from the Gulf to Europe by way of the Grand Faw Port in Basra, in southern Iraq, which would be connected to Turkey, then to Europe, through a network of railways and highways.

The Development Road project will link the Grand Faw Port in Iraq’s oil-rich south to Turkey, with plans for high-speed trains, local industry connections, and potentially oil and gas pipelines.

The planned project, which would involve the construction of about 1,200 km (about 745 miles) of railways and highways, will be “an economic lifeline and a promising opportunity for the convergence of interests, history, and cultures.

The project is expected to be completed by 2029.

India has joined the Centralized Laboratory Network (CLN) which currently has 15 partner facilities in 13 countries that works to test vaccines which can be used during pandemic, epidemic disease outbreak.

CLN is a part of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the Network is the largest global group which has standardised methods and materials for testing.

CEPI-funded network aims to identify the most promising vaccine candidates rapidly and accurately against emerging infectious diseases and the expanded network is working at supporting sustainable regional outbreak preparedness infrastructure also.

The new members of the CLN now are Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV), Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) (Senegal), KAVI Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI ICR) & University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (UNITID) (Kenya), Synexa Life Sciences (South Africa) and Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) (Uganda).

Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in all 75 districts across UP.

The registration campaign will be organized across the state from 15 June, 2023.

Aim :

To cover around 14 lakh such MSMEs that are not yet registered with the MSME Udyam portal, and providing them with all the benefits of the schemes of the state government.

More than 90 lakh MSMEs are active in the state but only 14 lakh are registered.

In each district, the Directorate of Industries will organize camps for the registration of MSMEs.

Additionally, the MSMEs themselves can also register by visiting the portal.

The registration of MSMEs will provide them an identity, which will be essential for their operation.

MSME term was introduced by the Government of India (GoI) in agreement with the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006.

He succeeds Soma Mondal, who retired from the post on April 30, 2023.

The Swachh Mukh Abhiyaan is a national campaign undertaken by the Indian Dental Association to improve oral health and hygiene and educate people about its importance.

The campaign will lead the country to optimal healthcare and pave the way for a new model of oral hygiene.

It highlights a five-point oral hygiene agenda like brushing teeth twice daily, rinsing after every meal, eating healthy and nutritious food, avoiding smoking or chewing tobacco to prevent oral cancer, and going for dental check-up at least twice a year.

It is the world’s most advanced maritime helicopter and is the most capable naval helicopter available today designed to operate from frigates, destroyers, cruisers and aircraft carriers.

It is manufactured by US defence major Lockheed Martin.

It is an all-weather helicopter designed to support multiple missions with state-of-the-art avionics and sensors.

Main missions of the MH-60R Seahawk are Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW)

This helicopter can detect and track submarines and surface ships and attack with torpedoes and missiles.

An international team of scientists led by Professor Abhijit Chakraborty of the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat has discovered an alien planet, which is 13 times bigger in size than Jupiter.

It has been identified as a planet and designated as TOI 4603b or HD 245134b.

It is the third exoplanet identified by PRL scientists.

The findings of the study were published in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics Letters.

Key Highlights :

Scientists from India, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States have used PRL Advanced Radial-velocity Abu-sky Search spectrograph (PARAS) at Mt Abu’s Gurushikhar Observatory for determining the planet’s mass.

The newly-discovered planet has a mass of 14 g/cm3.

This planet is 731 light years away from Earth and orbits its star once every 7.24 days.

Its temperature is around 1396 degree Celsius.

SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies Corporation) has launched Falcon 9 rocket topped with the 52 Starlink spacecraft lifted off from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base, United States of America (USA).

It was the 14th launch and landing for this particular booster.

Key Highlights :

According to astrophysicist and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell, SpaceX has now launched more than 4,500 Starlink satellites, more than 4,100 of which are currently active.

SpaceX already has permission to send 12,000 Starlink satellites to orbit, and it has applied for approval to launch another 30,000 on top of that.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will set up its first International campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

The institute is planning to start classes by October 2023 with a batch of 50 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate students.

The establishment of IIT in Zanzibar is a significant step towards strengthening the ties between India and Africa.

The IIT campus in Tanzania will promote research and innovation in the African continent.

Key Highlights :

Zanzibar will be one of three campuses of IIT which will be located outside of India.

The other campuses will be set up in Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur.

Each of these campuses is designed to serve its respective region, with Zanzibar serving the greater East African region.

In the first year, the institution will offer data science and artificial intelligence courses.
