  • The plan will save 34.7 million tonnes (MT) of coal and reduce carbon emissions by 60.2 MT.
  • As per the plan, 20% of the targeted thermal capacity will be replaced with RE power in FY24. This will be followed by 35% in FY25 and 45% in FY26.
  • The thermal power generating station-wise targets have been fixed.
  • However, the thermal generating station can substitute larger amounts of thermal power with RE power.

  • The Punjab government has discontinued physical stamp papers in order to improve efficiency and prevent evasion of state revenue
  • Now stamp papers of any denomination will be available in the form of e-stamp (computerised print-out) at stamp vendors or state-approved banks.

  • The union government has approved 8.1% rate of interest on employee provident fund or EPF deposits for 2021-22,. The interest rate is notified after the approval of the Union Finance Ministry, following which interest is credited into its subscribers’ accounts.
  • In March, retirement fund body EFPO or Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation had cut interest rate on employees’ provident fund deposits to a four-decade low of 8.1% for the 2021-22 fiscal, from 8.5% in the previous year.
  • This is the lowest interest rate since 1977-78 on deposits that employees make towards their retirement fund. Interest rate on employees provident fund that year stood at 8%.
