The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted permission to District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) to close unprofitable branches without the need for prior approval from the central bank.However, DCCBs must obtain approval from the Registrar of Cooperative Societies of the concerned state before closing branches.The circular issued by the RBI stipulates that the decision to close branches should be made by the board of the DCCB. This decision should take into account all relevant factors.DCCBs planning to close a branch should provide a two-month notice to all existing depositors and customers of the branch.
