Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur launched revised schemes of Cash Awards, National Welfare and Pension to sportspersons, Web Portal for Schemes of Department of Sports, and National Sports Development Fund website in New Delhi.

The Minister hailed this development as another step towards Digital India by empowering citizens and reducing the gap between Government and citizens, system and facilities, problems and solutions. He appealed to the people, PSUs, corporate houses, and other institutions to make their contribution to the National Sports Development Fund for creating sports infrastructure and facilities for the sportspersons.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted a commission to carry out a delimitation exercise of municipal wards in Delhi. A three-member delimitation commission will present its report within four months of its formation.

The three members of the commission include Vijay Dev, State Election Commissioner of Delhi, who will be the Chairman, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Joint Secretary, MoHUA, Government of India, and Randhir Sahay, Additional Commissioner, MCD. While unifying the MCD and passing the Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, the Centre had said that it will go for delimitation as the number of wards from the present 272 need to be fixed to not more than 250

The country’s unemployment rate shot up at 7.80 percent in June with the loss of 13 million jobs, mainly in the agriculture sector, according to the data released by the economic think-tank Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE).

 The unemployment rate in rural areas, went up to 8.03 percent from 6.62 percent in May, and in urban areas, it was slightly better at 7.30 percent compared to 7.12 percent highest rate of unemployment was witnessed in Haryana at 30.6 percent followed by Rajasthan at 29.8 percent, Assam at 17.2 percent, Jammu and Kashmir at 17.2 percent, Bihar at 14 percent.

Cognizant Technology Solutions has been selected as a technology provider by National Insurance Company Ltd (NICL) to accelerate and help manage its digital transformation. NICL is one of India’s leading public-sector general insurance companies.

Cognizant will also support NICL’s technology roadmap by leveraging digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation, and microservices-based architecture, and further consulting and digital capabilities will be applied to assist NICL in offering an improved and secure customer experience.

Tata Power would spend Rs 75,000 crore in the next five years to expand the capacity of its renewable energy business. An amount of Rs 10,000 crore would be spent in 2022-23 (FY23) to take the total capital expenditure (capex) during the financial year to Rs 14,000 crore, at the company’s 103rd annual general meeting, which was held virtually.

Tata Power is the first company in the sector to declare a net-carbon-zero target. The company has now advanced its net-zero carbon target by five years to 2045. It is aiming for 100 percent water-neutral and zero waste by 2030.

Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals (GACL) have collaborated with NTPC Renewable Energy (NTPC REL) for renewable energy and green chemicals. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is for exploring business opportunities of mutual interest in the areas of sourcing renewable power to the extent of about 100 MW and jointly working on synthesizing Green Chemicals such as Methanol and Ammonia.

NTPC REL is a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC and has been incorporated to develop renewable energy projects and parks including various development of various green hydrogen energy solutions, and battery energy storage solutions.

Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with REC Limited, a public infrastructure finance company to collaborate on activities to improve the operational and financial sustainability of discoms through the holistic deployment of smart meters, strengthening of power distribution networks, and improved quality of service for electricity consumers.

The MoU will enable the parties to study the best practices and regulations concerning the operation, management, and use of smart metering infrastructure. The parties will also work together to implement and evaluate innovative strategies to improve operational efficiencies and the financial sustainability of DISCOMs.

Union Health Ministry and Panchayati Raj Ministry have signed an MoU to eliminate TB in India. The TB Free India Campaign has been launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to eliminate Tuberculosis in India by 2025, five years ahead of the targets set by the UN’s SDGs

The main objective of this MoU is to forego convergence at policy, program, and implementation levels across the Ministries of the Government of India for a multi-sectoral and accelerated response toward TB-Free India. MoH&FW has developed a National Strategic Plan (2017–2025) for the elimination of TB in the country by 2025.

India has been ranked in the 36th position out of the 52 countries on the list, with a high affordability score in the  Expat Insider Rankings for 2022, which was released by the InterNations where Mexico topped the survey.

Indonesia is in the second spot while Taiwan, Portugal, Spain, UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, Australia, and Singapore are also among the top 10 countries’ top destinations. For the Expat Insider 2022 survey report, 11,970 respondents representing 177 nationalities and living in 181 countries or territories worldwide were asked to evaluate their life abroad.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources has discovered two new marine fishes. The first is an eel discovered when a specimen was collected at the Colachel fish landing center located in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu.

The eel is 240–487 mm long and its distinctive features are white spots on the dorsal-fin origin; grey and shiny body color with dark marks or spots on the posterodorsal margin of the eyes. This eel species is most probably distributed along the southwest coast of India. It is the eighth species of congrid eels that have been documented from the Indian waters.

Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan created history by becoming the first Indian shooter to win the gold medal in the men’s skeet event at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, South Korea.

Mairaj Ahmad Khan recorded 37 hits out of a possible 40 in the final to win gold. South Korea’s Minsu Kim struck 36 for silver while Ben Llewellin of Great Britain won bronze with 26 hits.  Anjum Moudgil, who won individual silver, combined with Sift Kaur Samra and Ashi Chouksey to win the bronze medal.

The World Athletics Council selected Tokyo, Japan, to host the 2025 World Athletics Championships. The 2025 World Athletics Championships will see the sport’s biggest stars return to Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium, the venue for last year’s Olympic Games, in the year that the Japanese Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) celebrates its centenary year.

At the World Athletics Council Meeting in Oregon, USA, the Council also announced that the 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships will be held in Medulin and Pula in Croatia and the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships will be held in Tallahassee, Florida.

National Legal Services Authority Chairman Uday Umesh Lalit launched the country’s first AI-powered digital Lok Adalat during the 18th All India Legal Services Authorities’ meet held at Jaipur Rajasthan.

The Digital Lok Adalat will be used to dispose of pending disputes or disputes that are at the pre-litigation stage. it offers an AI-powered voice-based interactive chatbot and advanced data analytics tools to help gain deeper insights into the functioning of Lok Adalat through custom reports and BI Dashboards for data-driven decision-making.

Karnataka Bank announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JCB India for equipment financing. The MoU is expected to boost the lending avenues under the bank’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) portfolio.

Under this MoU, JCB will nominate Karnataka Bank as its “preferred financier” where individuals/contractors/company /partnership firms/LLP, etc., can avail of loans from the bank at competitive interest rates for purchasing a wide range of equipment from the product line of JCB India.

Go Digit General Insurance has announced that it has launched the ‘Pay as you Drive’ (PAYD) add-on feature for motor insurance Own Damage (OD) policies. This makes Digit Insurance one of India’s first insurers to introduce the add-on for its customers.

The customers will be able to complete the process within 5 minutes using tech-enabled video pre-inspection and finish the entire policy issuance process in less than 30 minutes. This is especially beneficial to people who do not drive their car regularly but still pay the same premium as a driver with heavy usage.

Federal Bank has launched its new online tax payment service in partnership with the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to assist taxpayers in making their payments via the e-pay tax facility in the e-filing portal of the income tax. Customers can now pay their taxes instantly via any of their payment modes such as debit/credit card, UPI, net banking, cash, NEFT/RTGS.

NRIs and domestic customers of the bank, as well as any tax-paying citizen in India, can generate a tax challan and make the payment through the Bank’s branches. The bank had received government approval for the collection of direct tax last financial year and it has been effective since July 1 this year.

The President of India has been pleased to appoint La Ganesan, Governor of Manipur to discharge the functions of the Governor of West Bengal, in addition to his duties from the date he assumes charge of the office of the Governor of West Bengal.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday accepted the resignation of West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar who has been named as the ruling National Democratic Alliance candidate for the vice presidential election. Dhankhar was appointed as the Governor of West Bengal in 2019.

Ashish Chauhan has been appointed as the MD&CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd (NSE). The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has cleared a five-year term for Chauhan as managing director and chief executive officer.

Chauhan, who is currently the CEO of Bombay Stock Exchange, holds a B Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay and a PGDM from IIM Kolkata. He joined BSE as Deputy CEO in 2009 and was appointed as CEO in 2012. The appointment comes after Vikram Limaye’s term as managing director, and chief executive officer.

INS Sindhudhvaj bid adieu to the Indian Navy, serving for a glorious period of 35 years in Visakhapatnam. Vice Adm Biswajit Dasgupta Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command was the Chief Guest for the ceremony. The Decommissioning event was attended by 15 of the former Commanding Officers including Cmde SP Singh (Retd), the Commissioning CO, and 26 Commissioning crew veterans.

The submarine crest depicts a gray color nurse shark and the name means flag bearer at sea. Sindhudhvaj, as the name suggests, was the flag bearer of indigenization and the Indian Navy’s efforts towards achieving Atmanirbharta in the Russian-built Sindhughosh class submarines throughout her journey in the navy.

NASA has successfully tested a new waste disposal technology aboard the International Space Station (ISS) developed by Texas-based space technology company Nanoracks. During the successful first test, the container contained around 78 kilograms of trash including foam, packing materials, cargo transfer bags, dirty crew clothing, hygiene products, and used office supplies.

The new concept developed by Nanopracks uses a specially designed waste container contained which is mounted in the Bishop Airlock. Crew members can fill it up with around 270 kilograms of waste. After this, the container is released, and just like the Cygnus method, it completely burns up during re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere.

Veteran singer Bhupinder Singh, best known for his songs such as ‘Do Deewane Shaher Mein’ and ‘Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga’, died at the age of 82.

In his five-decade-long career, the singer, born in Amritsar, Punjab, had worked with the biggest names in the music industry such as Mohammed Rafi, R D Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Bappi Lahiri, among others. His career working in the All India Radio, Delhi, as a singer and musician. Upon being spotted by composer Madan Mohan during one of the All India Radio parties, he was called to Mumbai.

Noted artist Achuthan Kudallur passed away in Chennai at the age of 77, due to an age-related illness. A civil engineer by training, Achuthan Kudallur was a self-taught abstract artist and a highly respected name in contemporary art circles of south India.

In 1991, Achuthan participated in the seventh Triennale in New Delhi and at the third Asian Art Show at Fukuoka, Japan. In 2001, he was appointed the commissioner for the 10th Indian International Triennale. He is also the recipient of the Tamil Nadu Lalit Kala Akademi Award and the National Academy Award.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon, 79 passed away after a brief illness in Amritsar. A prominent Akali leader from the Majha region, Kahlon was charged with a recruitment scam, but later acquitted by the court.

Nirmal Singh Kahlon was elected MLA from Fatehgarh Churian constituency in Gurdaspur district in 1997 and 2007. He was the minister of rural development and panchayats from 1997 to 2002 and Speaker of the Punjab assembly from 2007-12.

In the ranking of International Economic Resilience (IER) of the Top 10 Countries in each of the years between 2019 and 2022, India has consistently improved its position from the sixth position in 2019 to the third position in 2021 and is projected to further improve it to the second position in 2022, according to data released by Ph.D. Chamber of Commerce and Industry in its report Pre and Post COVID Economic Dynamics of Leading Economies.

The PHDCCI report is based on the comparative analysis of the leading economies conducted based on the five leading economic parameters viz., Real GDP Growth Rate parameter, Merchandise Export Volume Growth rate, Current Account Balance (% of GDP), General government net lending/borrowing (% of GDP), and Gross Debt to GDP ratio.
