Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur launched ‘Azadi Quest’, a series of online educational mobile games developed in collaboration with Zynga India.  The gaming sector has grown by 28% in 2021 alone. The number of online gamers has risen by eight percent from 2020 to 2021 and by 2023 the number of such gamers is expected to reach 45 crores.

These games are an effort to tap into the huge market of online gamers and to educate them through games. Various arms of the Government of India have collected information about unsung freedom fighters from the corners of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Amrita Hospital in Haryana’s Faridabad. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a centralized fully-automated laboratory, the hospital is being seen as a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in the National Capital Region.

Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy successfully flight tested Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.

The flight test was carried out from an Indian Naval Ship against a high-speed unmanned aerial target for demonstration of vertical launch capability. The missiles, equipped with indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) seekers, intercepted the target with high accuracy. The VL-SRSAM system has been indigenously designed and developed by DRDO.

Mali has appointed Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga as interim Prime Minister after the country’s civilian Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maiga was admitted to hospital. Before this appointment, Colonel Maiga was working as a Government Spokesman and Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation.

 In recent months, Maiga had come under criticism from many of his former allies for following the Junta’s line. Military Junta leader Colonel Assimi Goita had himself appointed transitional president after the May 2021 coup.

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has introduced a new facility of overdraft against fixed deposit and pre-qualified credit card with a host of features, including insurance coverage.

Customers can avail of the loan without visiting a bank branch, it said, adding there is a concession of 0.25 percent on the interest rate when applied through digital platforms like PNB One. his facility will be available for salary account customers and they shall be able to apply through the mobile banking app PNB One, website, or Internet Banking Service.

Mr. Vikram Doraiswami has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom. Mr. Doraiswami is presently the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh.

Women’s Equality Day is celebrated every year on August 26 in the United States to honor the women of America for gaining the constitutional right to vote. The day was chosen to be honored as Women’s Equality Day after a resolution put out by New York congresswoman Bella Abzug in 1973.

The day honors the ‘Nineteenth Amendment’ made to the US constitution in 1920 to give equal voting rights to women. This year’s theme for Women’s Equality Day is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a Central Zonal Council meeting in Bhopal where issues like connectivity, power, sharing of river water, and other matters of common interests will be discussed.

She is among the four journalists including Anthony Del Col, Josh Adams, and Walt Hickey of Insider being published from New York, selected for their work on the Chinese oppression of the Uyghurs.

The citation for the award said that they have been selected for the prize for using graphic reportage and the comic medium to tell a powerful yet intimate story of the Chinese oppression of the Uyghurs, making the issue accessible to a wider public.

For strengthening the rural economy and making the “gauthan” (cattle shed) a center of livelihood, the Chhattisgarh government will set up 300 rural industrial parks in the state. The first such park in Chhattisgarh came up in Kulgaon, Kanker district, which has been named Gandhi Gram. The district administration, along with women’s self-help groups, has developed the park.

The forest department has started a residential training center, based on the value addition of minor forest produce. Chhattisgarh has set up 8,404 gauthans of the 10,624 sanctioned. The state government is procuring cow dung at Rs 2 a kg for making vermicompost. Production will increase once the 300 parks take shape.

Reserve Bank of India turned net seller of the US currency in June after it sold USD 3.719 billion on a net basis. The central bank purchased USD 18.96 billion from the spot market and sold USD 22.679 billion, according to the RBI monthly bulletin for August 2022.

During fiscal 2022, the central bank had net purchased USD 17.312 billion. It had bought USD 113.991 billion and sold USD 96.679 billion in the spot market in FY22.
