The International Workers Memorial Day is held annually all over the world on April 28 to remember the workers who were killed, disabled, injured or made unwell by their working environment and also take action to ensure that such tragedies are not repeated. The day is also known as Workers’ Memorial Day, International Commemoration Day (ICD) for Dead and Injured or Day of Mourning. Theme for 2019: “Dangerous substances – get them out of the workplace”.

The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC) announced that the committee will be under the chairmanship of its Secretary, C K Mishra, and will have one chief secretary each from over 20 states and union territories, including Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, as its members.In its endeavour to implement the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), launched to tackle the air pollution menace in the country, the Centre has constituted a steering committee. Two warships of the Indian Navy have reached the South Korean port city of Busan after participating at an international maritime parade off the coast of Qingdao in China. INS Kolkata and INS Shakti are in Busan as part of a deployment of the eastern fleet to the South China Sea. In a demonstration of India’s Act East policy and the Indian Navy’s increasing footprint and operational reach, Indian naval ships Kolkata and Shakti have arrived at Busan, South Korea on a three-day visit as part of deployment of the Eastern Fleet to the South China Sea on April 28. The Navy said the two ships will participate in the ADMM-Plus Maritime Security Field Training Exercise (FTX) at Busan.

Bajrang Punia is set to become the first wrestler from India to fight at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York. The 25-year-old, who won the gold medal in the 65-kg category at the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championships earlier this week, is the first Indian wrestler to be invited by the American governing body. Bajrang Punia will take part in the “Grapple at the Garden — Beat the Streets” fight night, scheduled to be held on May 6. He is currently the World No.1 in the 65-kg weight category.
