Every year on August 30 the country celebrates National small Industry Day. The day is dedicated to encouraging small businesses around the country. This day is observed to encourage small businesses and offer job chances to the jobless.

On August 30, 2000, the Ministry of Small-Scale Industries announced a comprehensive policy package for small businesses. The policy helped small businesses with the development of infrastructure and technology. A year later, the Centre formally declared August 30 as National Small Industry Day.

In a major boost for achieving indigenization in the armed forces, the Indian Navy received its first-ever fully Made in India 30mm ammunition for AK-630 guns fitted on warships. Satyanarayan Nuwal, CMD of the Economic Explosives Limited handed over the first consignment of the ammunition to Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral SN Ghormade.

The Navy said that it is the first time that the services have placed an order on the Indian private industry for the delivery of complete gun ammunition and completed it successfully within a record time of 12 months.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India will have a fourth whole-time member as the government cleared the appointment of Ananth Narayan Gopalkrishnan, Associate Professor, SP Jain Institute of Management & Research.

He has strong expertise in foreign currency, interest rates, derivatives, and debt capital markets. Narayan has also worked with Deutsche Bank and Citibank. He will join SEBI whole-time members SK Mohanty, Ashwani Bhatia, and Ananta Barua. Bhatia, previously the managing director of the state-owned State Bank of India (SBI), assumed charge at Sebi in June.

Axis Bank has decided to roll out campaigns along with the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd to promote its Kochi1 card amongst metro commuters. This would help daily commuters save considerably more with discounted metro fares.

 The Bank has partnered with Amazon Pay to provide discounts on recharges, utility, and bill payments, making the Kochi1 Card the one-stop solution for all the needs of Kochiites. The bank has tied up with 30+ merchants in Kochi providing exclusive local offers to the cardholders. Additionally, 50+ RuPay retail offers with global and pan-India brands have been made available.

The National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) has signed an agreement with ICICI Bank for the development of financial accounting software and mobile application.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) provides for the development of financial accounting software for NMDFC and State Channelizing Agencies (SCAs), loan accounting software for receiving and processing loan applications, and accounting of repayments from beneficiaries. This will also facilitate the submission of online applications by the targeted beneficiaries.

India GABON Business Council was launched by the Indian Economic Trade Organisation (IETO) and the Embassy of Gabon at the ITC Maurya to accelerate the trade relationship between both India and Gabon.

An MoU was signed by Josephine Patricia Ntyam- EHYA, the Charge D Affaires of the Gabon Embassy, and Dr. Asif Iqbal, the President of the IETO, and pledged the commitment of support for a robust partnership. This will also be useful for identifying business partners, collaborations, alliances, setting up industrial units, displaying Indian products and services, and other related business activities as well as taking up issues to concerned authorities.

The world’s first hydrogen-powered train was inaugurated in Germany, marking a significant step towards green train transport. The hydrogen-powered train fleet will normally operate between 50 – 75 mph and can travel at speeds of up to 87 mph for a range of 621 miles (1,000 Km).

A fleet of 14 trains provided by French industrial giant Alstom to the German state of Lower Saxony has replaced diesel locomotives on the 100km (60 miles) of track connecting the cities of Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervoerde and Buxtehude near Hamburg.

India’s Linthoi Chanambam claimed a historic gold at the World Cadet Judo Championship in Sarajevo, becoming the first from the country to win a medal in the tournament. In 2021, she clinched gold in the National Championships in Chandigarh. It was followed by another gold at the Asian Cadet and Junior Judo Championships in July this year.

Linthoi Chanambam hails from Mayang in Manipur which is known to be the hotspot for judokas. Linthoi’s father is a farmer and her mother is a homemaker. She has two other siblings, an older and a younger sister.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav participated in the ‘Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar’ campaign, which aims at promoting environmental sustainability, at Puducherry. The objective is to target lifestyle and behavioral changes that promote environmental sustainability, in line with the Prime Minister’s Global initiative on the ‘lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) Movement;

“Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar” campaign is a 75-day citizen-led initiative aimed at improving coastal and ocean health via community action. The campaign began on July 5, 2022, and will end on September 17, 2022, which happens to be International Coastal Clean-up Day.

The NITI Aayog has declared the holy city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand as the best aspirational district on five parameters, thereby providing an additional allocation of three crore rupees.

As per the aspirational districts scheme norms, the districts are supposed to prepare a plan of action in consultation with the state and central Prabhari Officers and send the same to NITI Aayog for final approval of the Empowered Committee of Secretaries constituted for the program.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the pedestrian-only ‘Atal Bridge” on the Sabarmati river in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad. The iconic bridge, having an eye-catching design and LED lighting, is nearly 300 meters long and 14 meters wide in the middle and connects the flower garden on the western end of the riverfront and the upcoming arts and culture center on the eastern end.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the 470-acre Smriti Van Memorial in Bhuj, address Khadi Utsav at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, and lay the foundation stone of various developmental projects.

Google, has announced a campaign to upskill cyber security researchers and developers in India. The campaign will be part of the company’s Cyber Security Roadshow, which will cover multiple cities across India and offer tools, tutorials, and mentorship on security practices for building consumer apps, as well as enterprise programs.

Alongside the upskilling initiative, Google also announced an awareness campaign to promote transaction safety in India and announced a $2 million grant for non-profit organizations to build cyber safety tools for “high-risk communities.

Kohli has become the first Indian and just the second player overall in international cricket history to have played 100 matches each in all three formats of the game. Kohli has now 100 T20Is to his name in addition to 102 Tests and 262 ODIs since making his international debut in August 2008.

The first man to do so was New Zealand batter Ross Taylor who retired from international cricket in April this year. The 38-year-old represented his country in 112 Tests, 236 ODIs, and 102 T20Is between 2006 and 2022.

Bangladesh and India signed two contracts for the construction of a new broad-gauge line between Khulna-Darsana and the conversion of the meter gauge line into a dual-gauge line between Parbatipur and Kaunia.

The contract signing ceremony was held at the Railway Ministry in Dhaka between representatives of the consultancy firm from India and the Bangladesh counterpart for the project. The 126-kilometer-long Khulna-Darshana broad gauge rail line will have 147 bridges over it including 4 Girder bridges and 143 RCC box culvert bridges. The project cost is Taka 3506 crore out of which Taka 2689 crore will come from the Indian Line of Credit.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that the state government will implement 100% of the syllabus in higher education institutes along the lines of the National Education Policy.

At the seventh Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog, the Chief Minister also said that Goa is working on the skills of its human resources with the help of agreements signed with various industry associations. He confirmed that Goa has signed a memorandum of understanding with around 35 industry associations in the state who will work on the skill development.

New Zealand batter Martin Guptill overtook Rohit Sharma to become the highest run scorer in T20 International when he scored 15 runs against the West Indies at Sabina Park in Kingston. The Kiwi batter now sits at 3,497 runs after his short innings.

Rohit had crossed Guptill as the leading run-scorer after scoring 64 in the first T20I against the same opposition in July. Rohit (3,487) and third-placed Virat Kohli (3,308) will get the chance to move to the top when India takes part in the Asia Cup later this month.

Defence Ministry approved Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) projects which would give a significant boost to the Indian Army’s firepower as Guided Extended Range ammunition along with area denial munition rockets for Pinaka rocket launchers were cleared by it.

The proposals approved by Defence Acquisition Council include three proposals of the Indian Army including Guided Extended Range Rocket Ammunition, Area Denial Munition Type I, and Infantry Combat Vehicle – Command. The total value of these three proposals is Rs 8,599 crore.
