  • The 5th India Water Impact Summit (IWIS) began on 10th December 2020 virtually. The five day programme will conclude on 15 December 2020 and the theme is Arth Ganga – river conservation synchronised development.
  • Prime Minister NarendraModi will deliver the inaugural address at FICCI’s 93rd Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention via video conferencing and also inaugurate the virtual FICCI Annual Expo 2020.
  • The Karnataka Legislative Assembly passed the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill-2020.
  • BSE (earlier known as Bombay Stock Exchange) has launched an electronic spot platform for agricultural commodities through its subsidiary BSE Investments Ltd.
  • Indian Railways has launched the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) to provide better health care facilities to its work force with the help of information technology.
  • The HMIS has been developed by Indian Railways in coordination with RailTel Corporation Limited.
  • NITI Aayog releases a white paper Vision 2035 – Public Health Surveillance in India, The white paper was released by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar, Member (Health) Dr Vinod K Paul and CEO Amitabh Kant.

  • The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has declared Invest India as winner of the 2020 United Nations Investment Promotion Award.
  • Invest India award ceremony took place at UNCTAD Headquarters in Geneva on Dec 7.
  • Mount Everest is 8,848.86 metres tall, says Nepal and China after remeasurement. The new height is 86 cms more than the previous measurement
  • The United Kingdom will become the first country to roll out the Covid-19 vaccine.
  • The World Economic Forum will hold its 2021 annual meeting in Singapore instead of its traditional home of Switzerland.
  • S. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were jointly named Time magazine’s 2020.
  • ADB launches $9 billion Covid-19 vaccine scheme to procure, deliver vaccines
  • The UNESCO has decided to launch an international prize in the field of ‘creative economy’ in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman.

  • The government has launched the Quarterly Return filing & Monthly Payment scheme for small taxpayers under the Goods and Services Tax system  With Turnover Up To Rs 5 Crore
  • Punjab National Bank launched a tech-based loan management solution called LenS-The Lending Solution to speed up and maintain accuracy in online loan processing and sanctioning of credit proposals.
  • ICICI Bank has launched a new version of mobile banking app, called iMobilepay, that offers payments and banking services to customers of any bank.
  • On December 7, 2020 Kotak Mahindra Asset Management launched Kotak International REIT funds, which is India’s first diversified REIT mutual fund (MF).
  • The Manila Bades Multilateral lending agency ADB stated it has approved a USD 2.5 million (about Rs 18 crore) technical assistance to support advanced biofuel development in India.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the licence of The KaradJanataSahakari Bank Ltd, Karad, Maharashtra, because it does not comply with the relevant provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
  • Nomura Expects India to be the fastest growing Asian economy in 2021  gross domestic product GDP growth to average 9.9% in 2021 versus -7.1% in 2020.
  • Fitch Ratings has raised India’s GDP forecast to -9.4% in FY21
  • Bank of Baroda (BoB) has launched the Atmanirbhar Women Scheme as part of its Baroda Gold Loan. Under the scheme, the bank is offering loans at 0.50% concession for women.
  • Asian Development Bank expects Indian economy to contract at a slower pace of 8%.

  • Road Transport and Highways Minister NitinGadkari inaugurated the three lane 1.5 km long Koilwarbridge over Sone river in Bihar through Video Conferencing on 10 Dec 2020.
  • Ladakh Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur virtually inaugurated the second edition of Ladakh Literature Festival, 2020, in Leh on Dec 10.

  • The Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians 2020 has been awarded to Carolina Araujo, Mathematician from the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in a virtual ceremony on December 9, 2020.

  • NTPC inks MoU with IIFM-Bhopal for Narmada Landscape Restoration Project. Narmada Landscape Restoration project is a 4 year Project.
  • State-run power producer SJVNL has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) for greenenergyprojects.
  • Prime Minister NarendraModi and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E. Mr.ShavkatMirziyoyev co-chaired a Virtual Summit between India and Uzbekistan on 11 December, 2020.
  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has inked a pact with Austria for technical cooperation in road infrastructure space.

  • HAL-IISc Skill Development Centre in Challakere of Chitradurga district in Karnataka launched its first training programme offering five courses in virtual mode.
  • Global machine connectivity solutions company SkylotechIndia has partnered with BSNL to launch a satellite-based narrowband IoT network in India. This is the World’s first satellite based NB-IoT network. 
  • DRDO designed56×30 mm Protective Carbine has successfully undergone the final phase of User trials on 7th December 2020 meeting all the GSQR parameters.

  • Veteran Hindi writer MadhukarGangadhar passed away in National Capital Delhi. He Served in All India Radio (AIR) for 39 years and then he became an independent writer based in Delhi.
  • Popular TV actress DivyaBhatnagar passed away on Dec 7 in Mumbai. She acted in hit serials like YehRishtaKyaKehlata and Udaan.
  • Paolo Rossi, Italy’s goalscoring hero from their victorious 1982 World Cup campaign, has died at the age of 64.
  • Renowned Sanskrit scholar VidyavachaspatiBannanjeGovindacharya died at his residence at Ambalpady in Udupi. Govindacharya was the brand ambassador of India in World Conference on Religion.
  • Chuck Yeager, the first person to travel at a speed faster than the speed of sound, has passed away at the age of 97
  • Music composer NarendraBhide, who composed many award-winning films, television soaps as well as plays, died of a heart attack at the age of 47 in Pune.
