International Day of Sign Languages

  • International Day of Sign Languages is celebrated annually across the world on 23 September every year along with International Week of the Deaf. Thetheme for International Day of Sign languages 2020 is “Sign Languages Are for Everyone!”

World Maritime Day

  • Every year on September 24, World Maritime Day is observed to understand the importance of the marine environment. The theme for this year is“sustainable shipping for a sustainable planet” –  in line with the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs of the United Nations.

World Pharmacist Day

  • World Pharmacist Day is celebrated on 25 September every year to promote awareness about the importance and role of a pharmacist. The theme of World Pharmacist Day 2020 is “Transforming global health”.

Antyodaya Diwas

  • In 2014, Venkaiah Naidu former Union Urban Development Minister announced that the government has decided to observe September 25 as ‘Antyodaya Diwas’ every year to mark the birth anniversary of erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh and BJP icon Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

World Environmental Health Day

  • World Environmental Health Day is annually observed in many countries around the world on September 26. The observance was inaugurated in 2011 in Indonesia.
  • This year the theme of World Environmental Health Day 2020 is – Environmental Health A Key Public Health Intervention in Disease Pandemic.

International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons

  • The UN General Assembly commemorates 26 September as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

World Tourism Day

  • Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day as international observances on September 27.
  • The 2020 edition of World Tourism Day, with the theme of “Tourism and Rural Development”.

World Deaf Day

  • World Deaf Day is celebrated every year on the last Sunday of September with the aim to draw attention of general public, politician and development authorities towards the achievements of the deaf people as well as deaf people community. This Year it falls on September 27th . Thetheme of the 2020 International Week of the Deaf will be “Reaffirming Deaf People’s Human Rights”

World Rabies Day

  • World Rabies Day is an annual observance that occurs on September 28 worldwide. It aims at raising awareness about the viral disease, rabies, and how to prevent it.

International Day for Universal Access to Information

International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste

  • This year Sep 29th we celebrate the first ever observance of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.

World Rivers Day 2020

  • World Rivers Day is observed every year on the fourth Sunday of September. The current year’s theme for World Rivers Day will be “Day of Action for Rivers” that praises the function of ladies in ensuring and overseeing waterways

  • International Daughters Day on the fourth Sunday in September celebrates the girl child.

World Contraception Day- 26 September

  • World Contraception Day takes place on September 26th every year. The day’s mission is to improve awareness of all contraceptive methods available and enable young people to make informed choices on their sexual and reproductive health.

World Heart Day

  • World Heart Day, aimed at drawing people’s attention to heart ailments and the whole range of associated health issues. This initiative was launched in 2000 by the World Heart Federation as an annual event and gets celebrated on 29th day of September ever since.

International Translation Day

  • International Translation Day is observed on 30 September every year to raise awareness about the translation profession and to pay tribute to the work of language professionals. The theme of International Translation Day, 2020 is “Finding the words for a world in crisis”.

  • The Centre has formed expert committees for inspection of government and other COVID facilities following directions of the Supreme Court.
  • The expert committees constituted by the Ministry of Health have been tasked to inspect, supervise and guide government and other hospitals dedicated to COVID-19.

Hyderabad International Airport gets ACI health accreditation for safe travel of passengers

  • GMR-led Hyderabad International Airport has managed to get the Airport Council International’s (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation (AHA).

Govt has launched National Conservation Strategy for Indian One-Horned Rhino

  • Union Minister Prakash Javadekar stated India is home to the largest number of Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros in the world with population in the range of 3000 animals in Assam, West Bengal and UP.

Parliament passes Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020

  • Parliament has passed the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020 with Rajya Sabha approving it. The Bill allows the central government to regulate the supply of certain food items only under extraordinary circumstances such as war and famine. It will replace the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 which was promulgated in June this year.

Centre sanctions Rs. 108 crore under UDAN scheme for three Airports in Chhattisgarh

  • The Central Government has sanctioned 108 crore under UDAN scheme for upgradation of  three  Chhattisgarh Airports.
  • Out of the total amount,  48 crore have been sanctioned for Jagdalpur, Rs. 27 crore for Ambikapur and Rs. 33 crore for Bilaspur under UDAN scheme for up-gradation and development of  these Airports.

Niti Aayog, ISPP join hands for capacity building

  • The Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO) of the Aayog has signed a statement of intent with the ISPP to build a collaboration for faster intermediation of knowledge and use within the public system, the statement stated.

Government gives one-year extension to Company Law Committee

  • The ministry of corporate affairs has extended the tenure of the Company Law Committee by one year to September 2021.
  • The committee, constituted is now chaired by corporate affairs secretary Rajesh Verma.

PM Modi lays foundation stone of 9 highway projects, launches ‘Ghar tak fibre’ scheme in poll-bound Bihar

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of nine highway projects in Bihar through video conference.
  • He also inaugurated the Ghar Tak Fibre project wherein all the 45,945 villages of Bihar will be connected through optical fibre internet Service.

 Centre approved Outlay for PM Svanidhi Scheme is Rs.600 Crore

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched Prime Minister Street Vendor’s Amta Nirbhar Nidhi Scheme (PM SVANidhi).
  • It aims at facilitating collateral free working capital loans upto Rs 10,000 of 1 year tenure, to about 50 lakh street vendors across the country.

Lok Sabha passes Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill, 2020

  • Lok Sabha passed the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill, 2020.
  • The bill aims to make Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi, English and Urdu as the official languages of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Government has launched YuWaah – a multi-stakeholder platform to make young people career ready

  • Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) have signed a “Statement of Intent” to establish YuWaah, Generation Unlimited (GenU), a global multi-stakeholder platform in India.

India aims to end tuberculosis by 2025: Health Minister at UN

  • Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has stated that India has accorded high priority for ending tuberculosis by 2025, five years ahead of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Railways target to complete 100% electrification of broad gauge routes by 2023

  • Railways has planned for 100 per cent electrification of its broad gauge routes by 2023. This was stated by the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

CII-IGBC launches Green Logistics Parks, Warehouses Rating System

  • CII-Indian Green Building Council has launched the IGBC Green Logistics Parks & Warehouses Rating System during the inaugural session of CII Institute of Logistics Conference on Building Warehousing Competitiveness 2020. The rating system is the 27th rating of the Indian Green Building Council.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on (September 24, 2020) interacted with fitness experts and influencers from across the country to mark the one-year anniversary of the ‘Fit India Movement.’

Govt raises limit for use of SDRF funds by states from 35 per cent to 50 per cent to tackle COVID situation

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the limit of using the State Disaster Response Fund for COVID specific infrastructure has been increased from 35 per cent to 50 per cent.

Country’s apex regulator of medical education ‘National Medical Commission’ comes into existence

  • The National Medical Commission (NMC), in place of the Medical Council of India (MCI), as the country’s apex regulator of medical education and profession has come into existence.
  • Dr Suresh Chandra Sharma, former head of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences ENT department, Delhi, has been appointed as chairman for a period of three years.

  • The government has constituted five task forces to make India’s micro, small and medium enterprises future-ready and formulate a concrete strategy towards making the country a leading exporter.

  • In collaboration with NITI Aayog, the International Energy Agency held the India launch of the Special Report on Sustainable Recovery from the IEA’s flagship World Energy Outlook series.

  • Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana -“Saubhagya” has completed three years since its inception.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched this scheme on the 25th of September, 2017 to ensure electrification of all willing households in the country in rural as well as urban areas.

Income Tax Department launches Faceless Income tax appeals

  • The Income Tax Department launched Faceless Income tax Appeals. In a statement, CBDT stated, under it, all income tax appeals will be finalised in a faceless manner with the exception of appeals relating to serious frauds, major tax evasion, sensitive and search matters, International tax and Black Money Act.

First-ever annual ‘India Happiness Report’ released; Mizoram, Punjab, Andaman and Nicobar Islands top index

  • In the happiness rankings of states and union territories, Mizoram, Punjab, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the top three. Among the big states, Punjab, Gujarat, and Telangana are among the top three states whereas, among smaller states, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh are the top three states in happiness rankings. Among union territories, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep are the top three union territories in happiness rankings.

Railways extends pact with IIT Kanpur for infrastructure modernisation research

  • The Indian Railways has extended the memorandum of understanding signed with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur for encouraging a state of the art collaborative research for modernisation of railway infrastructure and efficient utilisation of its scientific assets through the centre for railway research (CRR).

World’s richest 1% cause double CO2 emissions of poorest half, says Oxfam

  • The wealthiest 1% of the world’s population were responsible for the emission of more than twice as much carbon dioxide as the poorer half of the world from 1990 to 2015, according to new research.
  • Carbon dioxide emissions rose by 60% over the 25-year period, but the increase in emissions from the richest 1% was three times greater than the increase in emissions from the poorest half.

Arctic sea ice hits second-lowest level on record

  • This year, Arctic sea ice shrank to its second-lowest extent in more than 40 years of satellite measurements. On 15 September, ice covered just 3.74 million square kilometres of Arctic waters at its annual summer minimum. In only one other year — 2012 — has the annual minimum Arctic sea-ice cover dropped below 4 million square kilometres (see ‘Thin ice’).

IDFC First Bank to launch contactless debit card transaction facility ‘SafePay’

  • IDFC First Bank is set to launch SafePay, a digital facility that allows contactless debit card payments by simply waving one’s smartphone against a Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled POS terminal.
  • SafePay embeds Near Field Communication (NFC) technology in the IDFC First Mobile App to enable secure payments using a debit card issued by the Bank.

  • Fino Payments Bank along with fintech partners has introduced NFC-based contactless payments solution for mass transit systems, especially state bus transport services in India.

Positive Pay system for high value cheques from January 1, 2021: RBI

  • The Reserve Bank of India stated the proposed Positive Pay System for Cheque Truncation System will be introduced from January 1 next year and will be developed by the National Payments Corporation of India.
