  • Indian Coast Guard is celebrating its 46th Raising Day on February 1st,2022
  • February 2, 2022 is the first year that World Wetlands Day will be observed as a United Nations international day, following its adoption by the General Assembly on 30th August 2021.
  • World Interfaith Harmony Week is observed during the first week of February (1-7 February), after General Assembly designation in 2010.
  • World Cancer Day is observed annually on February 4 to raise worldwide awareness, improving education and catalysing personal, collective and government action.
  • The ‘International Day of Human Fraternity’ is celebrated across the world on 4th February. The first International Day of Human Fraternity was held in 2021.

  • The government has mandated storage of international calls, satellite phone calls, conference calls and messages made over normal networks as well as on the internet for a period of at least two years, according to circulars issued by the telecom department
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed 30th National Commission for Women Foundation Day programme via video conference.
  • Applications have been invited from Indian Women Scientists and Entrepreneurs to felicitate a select few with the prestigious India National Tech Excellence Award for Women 2022 for pursuing, prevailing, creating an impact, and etching out stories of inspiration for future young girls.

  • In a bid to push reforms aimed at promoting clean energy, India aims to blend 10 per cent ethanol with petrol this year and double it to 20 per cent by 2025, for which the government expects investments to the tune of $5.5 billion, or roughly 41,000 crore in the next three years.
  • Assets under management for environmental, social and governance (ESG) funds increased 2.5 times to USD 650 million in India in financial year 2021 on an annual basis, a top official of IT industry body Nasscom
  • ADVIK Hi-Tech Pvt Ltd has entered into a joint venture agreement with H2X Global Limited for the production of critical components for hydrogen vehicles and hydrogen-powered products.

  • Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL), under its modernisation initiatives, has set up ‘new bank note printing lines’ each at Currency Note Press, Nashik and Bank Note Press, Dewas
  • The Government of India did a conversion transaction for Government Securities (G-Secs) and Oil bonds with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on January 28, 2022 for an amount of 1,19,701 crore (Face Value).
  • The RBI has stressed the need for another green revolution in the nation in its latest bulletin.
  • The Reserve Bank, it has imposed several restrictions on Indian Mercantile Cooperative Bank Ltd, Lucknow, including a cap of Rs 1 lakh on withdrawals.
  • Tata Group has chosen State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and HDFC Bank as preferred bankers for Air India.
  • Punjab National Bank (PNB), and Patanjali Ayurved Limited (PAL) have launched co-branded contactless credit cards in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
  • Domestic rating agency CRISIL estimated 2022-23 (FY23) real GDP growth at 7.8 percent as compared with the 8.5 per cent projected in the Economic Survey.

  • RBI has noticed a few misleading advertisements of unauthorized Electronic Trading Platforms (ETPs) offering forex trading facilities to Indian residents.
  • A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the State Bank of India, Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts, and National Culture Fund for Development of Atmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design at L1 Barrack, Red Fort, Delhi.
  • The Export Import Bank (EXIM) of India and the Government of Sri Lanka signed a USD 500 million Line of Credit (LoC) Agreement, to purchase petroleum products.

  • The Government has appointed Lieutenant General Manoj Pande as the new Vice Chief of the Army Staff on February 1 & he will succeed Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty who superannuated on January 31, 2022.
  • Italy’s current president Sergio Mattarella has been re-elected for a second mandate, speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Robert Fico.
  • The Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costo, has been re-elected after his center-left Socialist Party secured a landslide victory in the 2022 Portuguese legislative election.
  • Games24x7 announced Hrithik Roshan as the brand ambassador for India’s largest online skill gaming platform, RummyCircle.
  • Capital markets regulator Sebi has restructured its four member high-power advisory committee on settlement orders and compounding of offences & the committee will now be chaired by Jai Narayan Patel, former chief justice of Calcutta High Court.

  • Lieutenant General GAV Reddy, SC, has been appointed as the new head of the Defence Intelligence Agency & he replaced Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon & he was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal on the 73rd Republic Day.
  • The marine version of the French-made Rafale fighter jet has been successfully flight-tested at a shore-based facility in Goa where conditions similar to that on the indigenously-developed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant were simulated.

  • Researchers from Kerala have identified two new species of fungi from the genus Ganoderma that are associated with coconut stem rot & they have also genotyped the two fungi species, named Ganoderma keralense and G. pseudoapplanatum and identified genetic biomarkers.
  • North Korea has fired a Hwasong-12 “mid-range ballistic missile” from the Jagang Province area the first time it has tested a weapon of that size since 2017.
  • The fifth submarine of Project 75, Yard 11879, Indian Navy’s Kalvari class commenced her sea trials on 01 February 2022.
  • A classified satellite NROL-87 for the U.S. the National Reconnaissance Office was launched into space by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, US.
  • The Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) has installed and commissioned Param Pravega, one of the most powerful supercomputers in India, and the largest in an Indian academic institution, under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
