  • The National Fish Farmers Day is celebrated on 10th July every year, this day is celebrated in memory of scientists Dr K. H. Alikunhi and Dr H. L. Chaudhary.  This year it was the 63rd National Fish Farmers Day.
  • World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The theme for World Population Day 2021 is “Rights and Choices are the Answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritising all people’s reproductive health and rights.”
  • On July 12, National Simplicity Day is observed to commemorate Henry David Thoreau, an author, poet, and philosopher.
  • World Malala Day Observed on July 12. At age 17, Malala was the youngest recipient ever of the Nobel Peace Prize.

  • Union Minister Prakash Javadekar inaugurates the Virtual India Pavilion at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh stated that a Common Eligibility Test, CET for job aspirants will be conducted across the country from early 2022. This unique initiative is being undertaken with the personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to screen and shortlist candidates for recruitment to Central Government jobs.
  • The Modi government announced a new ‘Ministry of Cooperation’ for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country.
  • The government has decided to bring the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) under the finance ministry. The DPE, which was earlier under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, has been brought under the finance minister to ease coordination related to future disinvestment plans.
  • The government has set up a 25-member development council for the cement industry, including Dalmia Bharat Group CMD Puneet Dalmia and UltraTech Cement MD K C Jhanwar, which will suggest ways to eliminate waste, obtain maximum production, improve quality, reduce costs and promote standardization of products.
  • Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) Chairman Shri M. Ajit Kumar here inaugurated the online filing of Authorised Economic Operators (AEO) T2 and T3 applications. The AEO web application is accessible at URL www.aeoindia.gov.in.
  • Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has recently secured trademark registrations in three countries – Bhutan, UAE and Mexico – a big stride towards protecting the identity of brand “Khadi”
  • On the occasion of World Population Day Uttar Pradesh government released the new population policy for 2021-2030.
  • India’s first cryptogamic garden with nearly 50 species of lichens, ferns, and fungi has been opened in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district. The garden was inaugurated by social activist Anoop Nautiyal, and it is situated in the district’s Chakrata town and at a height of 9,000 feet.
  • India aims to target over 100 billion “Blue Economy” through its Deep Ocean Mission (DOM) and ocean resources.
  • India’s and Asia’s first National Dolphin Research Centre (NDRC) will come up on the bank of the Ganges in the premises of Patna University
  • Ladakh has become the first Union Territory to vaccinate all residents and the ‘guest population’, consisting of migrant labourers, hotel workers and Nepalese citizens who are earning their livelihood there, with the first dose of Covid-19 jab.

  • India and Bangladesh have agreed to expedite work on the 1,320 MW Maitree Power Project and to ensure the timely commissioning of the first unit in December this year. The progress of the project was reviewed at a meeting between the Power Secretaries of India and Bangladesh.
  • World’s tallest sandcastle constructed in Denmark with a height of 21.16 metres.
  • Prime Minister Stefan Löfven was reinstated in the Sweden Parliament within a few weeks after he was ousted in a no-confidence vote. Löfven won a majority of 117 IN 349 seats on July 7 when he resumed. 
  • All BRICS countries have agreed to the STI-led BRICS Innovation Cooperation Action Plan (2021-24) proposed by India during the 12th meeting of the BRICS S & T Steering Committee.
  • Afghanistan witnessed a series of terror attacks in the last few weeks as the US looked to complete the withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan by August-end, ending a nearly two-decade of its military presence in the war-ravaged country.
  • The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched a global Mobility Aids Action Group to examine and improve the transport journey of mobility aids, including wheelchairs
  • The 21st session of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation was held virtually.
  • China has issued a 3-year action plan on development of the cyber security sector & it expects the size of the cyber security sector to exceed 250 billion yuan by 2023.
  • The Supreme Court of Nepal passed an order to appoint Sher Bahadur Deuba as New PM of Nepal as the PM K P Sharma Oli violated the constitutional Principles.
  • Finance Ministers approved a tax reform for multinationals that aims to put an end to tax havens by introducing a global corporate tax rate of at 15 per cent.

  • In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in order to provide a personal experience to the devotees of Shri Amarnathji, launched various online services of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
  • Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station also known as Bengaluru City Railway Station has become the first railway station in India with a movable freshwater tunnel aquarium. The aquarium has been opened by the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) in collaboration with the HNi Aquatic Kingdom. 
  • The Ernakulam District Library Council’s initiative, ‘Books at Doorstep’, to revive reading habits among school children, has evoked enthusiastic response and is on course to exceed the target. The project launched and aims at reaching out to 25,000 families spread across 500 libraries under the district library council.
  • The Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) will soon prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for launching an OTT platform exclusively for Malayalam movies.
  • Karnataka’s Revenue Minister R Ashoka has mentioned that the state government is planning to introduce the Model Tenancy Act in the state, aimed at ending tenant-owner disputes.
  • Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the country’s First Private LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) plant in Nagpur.
  • Chief Minister N Biren Singh hailed the moment to be “historic” and stated that the people of Manipur are “immensely grateful” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

  • Drip Capital, a fintech provider of cross border trade finance, has partnered with SBM Bank India to offer trade financing solutions — customized for small and medium-sized exporters in India.
  • The Delhi Metro launched FASTag/UPI based cashless parking facility at the Kashmere Gate Metro Station, Delhi. 
  • FREO partners with HDB Financial Services to offer lending solutions. Customers will get a personalized amount approved which they can start using immediately.
  • Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, one of the leading private general insurers in India and Bank of India, one of the largest Public Sector Banks in the country have entered into a corporate agency agreement for the distribution of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance’s products through the bank’s network of 5084 branches, 80 Retail Business Centers and 60 SME City Centers across the country.
  • Maruti Suzuki has launched a new platform, Maruti Suzuki Smart Finance, for its ARENA and NEXA customers. Under the initiative, the digital platform will provide customers end-to-end online car financing solutions.
  • Axis Bank will pick up a 9 per cent stake in Fettle Tone LLP, a promoter of Max Bupa Health Insurance Company, for Rs 90.8 crore to strengthen is insurance business.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a monetary penalty on 14 banks, including State Bank of India (SBI), Bandhan Bank, IndusInd Bank, Bank of Baroda (BoB), Central Bank for non-compliance with certain provisions of directions issued by them.

  • Private sector Federal Bank  stated it has received approval from the RBI to re-appoint Shyam Srinivasan as its MD and CEO for three years.
  • The ICC board has decided to relieve Manu Sawhney as the CEO with immediate effect, ending a long-running saga at the very top of the organization’s management. The decision was taken by the ICC board at an emergency meeting, chaired by Greg Barclay, the ICC chairman.
  • Twitter has finally appointed an India-based grievance officer, which is mandatory for all social media companies under the new Information Technology (IT) Rules of the country.

  • On July 05, 2021, China launched the new Fengyun-3E (FY-3E) meteorological satellite from the SLS-2 launch site at China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre.
  • On July 07, 2021, The National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) in West Bengal’s Kalyani created a database of genomic variations in oral cancer, the first-of-its-kind in the world, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT).
  • A newly established Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) based test rig facility at Hyderabad can help the growing solar industry in India to test capability and performance of solar thermal components like solar receiver tubes, heat transfer fluids, and concentrating mirrors.

  • On July 06, 2021, Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Giriraj Singh launched a mobile app ‘Matsya Setu for aqua farmers. The app has been developed by the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar, with the funding support of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad.
  • The Defence Ministry has implemented SPARSH, an integrated system for automation of sanction and disbursement of defence pension.

  • Fitch Ratings cut India’s growth forecast to 10 per cent for the current fiscal, from 12.8 percent estimated earlier, due to slowing recovery post-second wave of COVID-19, and said rapid vaccination could support a sustainable revival in business and consumer confidence.
  • E-commerce giant Amazon launched its first Digital Kendra in Gujarat’s Surat. Amazon Digital Kendra is one of the most important MSME clusters and will cater to thousands of MSMEs located in and around the city.
  • Facebook Inc. launched its newsletter product Bulletin, a standalone platform for free and paid articles and podcasts that will aim to rival Substack.

  • On July 08, 2021, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed a contract worth about Rs 499 crore with the Ministry of Defence for the manufacture and supply of Akash missiles to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
  • On July 07, 2021, Indian Naval Ship Tabar participated in a military exercise with a frontline frigate of the Italian Navy.
  • On July 13, 2021, The Indian Navy received the 10th anti-submarine warfare aircraft P-8I from the US-based aerospace company Boeing.

  • State-owned miner NMDC announced government plans to offload 4 percent stake in the company through an offer for sale (OFS). The promoter proposes to sell up to 11,72,24,234 equity shares of the company.

  • The US announced tariffs on six countries, including India, that have imposed or are considering equalization levy/digital services tax on e-commerce companies but immediately suspended the taxes for up to six months to provide additional time to complete the ongoing multilateral negotiations on international taxation at the OECD and G20.
  • The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, India and Public Service Commission, Gambia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Refurbishing Personnel Administration and Governance Reforms.
  • Union Territory of Ladakh and Himalayan Forest Research Institute (HFRI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for forest cover development in the region.
  • Axis Bank, India’s third largest private sector bank, reinforced its commitment to the Defence sector by signing an MOU with the Indian Army, to offer a defence service salary package with best-in-class benefits and features under its ‘Power Salute’ initiative.
  • For harnessing exports potential of agricultural and processed food products of cooperatives as well Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED).
  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for execution of 679 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project in Nepal between Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Central Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Power, Government of India & Investment Board of Nepal (IBN) in Kathmandu Nepal.
  • MoU signed between ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) and Delhi University (DU) to set up Bangabandhu Chair at DU as a tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh
