  • Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has launched the ‘India WaterPitch-Pilot-Scale Start-up Challenge’, under which the government will select 100 start-ups and they will be provided with Rs 20 lakh each as funding support as well as mentorship.
  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) supports States/ Union Territories by issuing advisories, design standards and schematic interventions for optimal use of technology for integrated urban planning.
  • Government has launched ‘Swachhata Startup Challenge’ in collaboration with Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to promote an enabling environment for development startups and entrepreneurs in the waste management sector.

  • The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has set the interest rate on provident fund deposits for 2021-22 at 1 percent, from 8.5 percent in the previous year.

  • The Supreme Court of India appointed ex-judge AK Sikri as chairperson of the High Powered Committee (HPC), which would consider the cumulative and independent impact of the CharDham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojana (Char Dham Highway Development Project) on the entire Himalayan valley” & he succeeded previous Chairperson Professor Ravi Chopra who had resigned from his post in February 2022.

  • The Hungarian parliament elected Katalin Novak the country’s first woman president & Novak will succeed Janos Ader (a co-founder of Orban’s governing right-wing Fidesz party who has held the job since 2012) .
  • Tata Sons chief Natarajan Chandrasekaran was appointed as chairman of Air India & In February 2022, N Chandrasekaran was reappointed as chairman of Tata Sons for a second term of five years.
  • The government has appointed State Bank of India (SBI) managing director Ashwani Bhatia as a whole-time member (WTM) of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

  • The Banks Board Bureau has recommended names for the positions of managing director (MD) and chief executive officers (CEO) at Union Bank (A Manimekhalai), Indian Overseas Bank (Ajay Kumar Srivastava) and Punjab and Sind Bank (Swaroop Kumar Saha) & State Bank of India (Alok Kumar Choudhary).

  • Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri presented the MoPNG Swachchta Pakhwada Awards to the winners & he also launched the Ministry’s annual publication ‘Indian Petroleum & Natural Gas Statistics 2020-21’.
  • The 75th British Academy Film Awards, also known as the BAFAs (or BAFTAs), were held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, honoring the best national and foreign films of 2021.
  • Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav presented Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar (VRP), National Safety Awards (NSA) for the performance year 2018 and National Safety Awards (Mines) [NSA (Mines)] for the contest years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

  • The Odisha government and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) have inked a pact for the creation of fisheries infrastructure to augment fish production.
  • National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) of India  & the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) of Sri Lanka signed an agreement for a joint venture to develop a 100 MW solar power plant in Sampur in the Trincomalee District, Sri Lanka.
  • Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based company SASMOS to work together on advanced electronics, electrical and fibre optic interconnections in the aerospace domain.
  • India’s Adani Group has inked an agreement for two mega power projects in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province.
  • Adani Solar and Smart Power India (SPI), a subsidiary of Rockefeller Foundation, have signed a non-financial and non-commercial memorandum of understanding for equitable access to last-mile electricity and to encourage energy transition in rural India.
  • Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for fabrication, supply, erection and launching of 27 carriageway double lane galvanised modular bridges of5 meters with Indian Road Congress (IRC) Load Class 70.
  • Welspun One Logistics Parks (WOLP), part of the $2.7 billion Welspun Group, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Haryana to develop large-scale warehousing facilities across the state.
  • JSW Cement, India’s leading green cement company and part of USD 13 billion JSW Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Punjab Renewable Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd (PRESPL) to use agricultural waste as biomass energy in its cement-manufacturing operations.

  • The National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) has deployed ‘PARAM Ganga’, a supercomputer at IIT Roorkee, with a supercomputing capacity of 66 Petaflops & the system is designed and commissioned by C-DAC under phase-2 of the build approach of the NSM.
  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration ‘s Artemis 1 mega moon rocket was rolled out for the first time for its testing debut at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA.

  • The latest report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on Trends in International Arms Transfer, 2021, released & the report reveals that India and Saudi Arabia had emerged as the largest arms importers of arms between 2017-21, each accounting for 11% of all global arms sales.
