  • As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has decided to celebrate the POSHAN Maah across the nation throughout the month of September starting.
  • As a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations to commemorate 75th Year of Independence, Union Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal, along with six Union Ministers, will launch the Yoga Break (Y-Break) mobile application at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind will award the President’s Colour to Indian Naval Aviation at the ceremonial parade to be held at INS Hansa in Goa on 6th September.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release a special commemorative coin of 125 rupees and address the gathering on the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Ji through video conferencing.
  • The newly formed Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh has declared the black-necked crane and snow leopard as the new state bird and animal.
  • The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting constituted a Committee to review the existing guidelines of Journalist Welfare Scheme and make appropriate recommendations for changes to the guidelines.

  • The New Development Bank (NDB) established by the BRICS ((Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries in 2015 has approved Bangladesh as its new member.
  • India has gifted two mobile medical oxygen plants to Bangladesh to support the country’s fight against COVID-19.
  • Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa have decided to jointly test multiple central bank digital currencies that facilitate cross-border transactions.
  • The Canadian city of Burnaby has declared September 5 as “Gauri Lankesh Day”, as a tribute to the dead journalist on her death anniversary, her sister Kavitha Lankesh.
  • The International Labour Organization (ILO) will issue its World Social Protection Report 2020-22: Social protection at the crossroads – in pursuit of a better future 1 September.

  • Madhya Pradesh government has launched the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 & With this, it has become the second state in the country to implement the policy after Karnataka.
  • Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur inaugurated a 2-Day Ladakh Nomadic Festival at Korzok Phu, Changthang region of eastern Ladakh.
  • Himachal Pradesh has achieved a unique distinction of achieving cent percent target of first dose of Covid-19 vaccination above the age of 18 years.
  • In Tripura, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated a project called ‘My Pad, My Right’ initiated by NABARD and NABFOUNDATION at Killa village in Gomati district on the second and concluding day of her visit to the state.
  • The Punjab Cabinet Launches ‘Mera Kaam Mera Maan’ Scheme to Help Unemployed Youth
  • The Assam cabinet decided to remove the name of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi from the Orang National Park. 
  • Chief Minister Amarinder Singh launched ‘Innovation Mission Punjab’ (IMPunjab), a public-private partnership that brings in global investors and experts to catalyze start ups.
  • Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched Rural Enterprises Acceleration Programme titled ‘Saath‘ for Self Help Group (SHG) women.
  • Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government has a proposal to set up a science innovation city in memory of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Pimpri-Chinchwad, the sister city of Pune.
  • The Centre signed the tripartite Karbi Anglong agreement promising to fulfil all the conditions for development of the Karbi people within the stipulated time.
  • Arunachal Pradesh government has launched two ambitious schemes, one in agriculture sector called ‘AtmaNirbhar Krishi Yojna’ and the other for horticulture named ‘AtmaNirbhar Bagwani Yojna’.
  • The Tamil Nadu government announced plans to set up India’s first Dugong Conservation Reserve in the Palk Bay on the southeast coast of the state.
  • Multilateral funding agency Asian Development Bank has approved a $150 million (about Rs 1,095 crore) loan for a sustainable housing project for the urban poor in Tamil Nadu.
  • India’s first building made of bio-bricks from agro-waste has been inaugurated at IIT Hyderabad.
  • The Gujarat government stated it planned to undertake public welfare projects to the tune of Rs. 1,000 crore jointly with non-resident Gujaratis by December next year under its ”Vatan Prem Yojana”.

  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has opened a floating ATM on Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar for the convenience of locals and tourists.
  • Private sector lender Axis Bank has tied up with BharatPe to expand its merchant acquiring business in the country.
  • Google Pay users can take the benefits of fixed deposit rates offered by Equitas Small Finance Bank by booking FD on the payments platform without opening a bank account.
  • Fintech major PhonePe launched ”Pulse”, a new website that will provide data, insights and trends on digital payments on its platform.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set up a five-member committee to review applications and give recommendations on new umbrella entity (NUE) licences.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 25 lakh on private lender Axis Bank for non-compliance.
  • Federal Bank launched its credit card in association with Visa.
  • Account aggregators are a set of non-banking financial companies, which work as technology intermediaries between companies seeking financial data of customers (financial information users) and those holding that data (financial information providers).
  • Ola Electric has tied up with leading banks and financial institutions, including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Prime and TATA Capital, for providing loans to customers for its S1 electric scooter that will be available for purchase from September 8.

  • Moody’s Investors Service slashed India’s growth projection to 6 per cent for 2021 calendar year, from its earlier estimate of 13.9 per cent, and stated faster vaccination progress will be paramount in restricting economic losses to June quarter
  • Morgan Stanley maintained its estimate of India GDP growth at 10.5 per cent for FY2022 versus the general consensus of 9.2 per cent.
  • India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 1% in the April-June quarter of this financial year (FY22), due to a low base during the same quarter last year.
  • GST revenue remained above Rs 1 trillion-mark for the second straight month in August at over Rs 1.12 trillion, 30 percent higher than the collection in the year-ago period.
  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has sharply increased its allocation of Special Drawing Rights (SDR) to India, in line with the country’s existing quota in the fund.
  • Amazon India launched the Kisan (Farmer) Store, aligning with Government of India’s vision of empowering farmers and leveraging technology to transform the farming sector.

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has cleared the selection of Vartika Shukla as the next chairperson and managing director of navratna public sector enterprise– Engineers India Ltd (EIL).
  • German footwear and accessories major Adidas stated it has roped in Tokyo Olympic Silver-medalist Mirabai Chanu as the face of its ”Stay in Play” campaign for its latest product innovation designed to keep more menstruating women in sports.
  • Pankaj Kumar Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer, took over as the new director general (DG) of the Border Security Force while his batch-mate Sanjay Arora assumed charge of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
  • Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Ltd, which is part of the Mahindra Group, has appointed Raul Rebello as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO) with immediate effect.
  • Senior bureaucrat J B Mohapatra has been appointed the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
  • Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, a 1990-batch IPS officer, as ADG Border Security Force (BSF) on a deputation basis up to September 30, 2025, which is his date of superannuation, or till further orders.
  • Atul Bhatt has been appointed as chairman and managing director (CMD) of disinvestment-owned steel company Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL).
  • For the first time in the history of Rajya Sabha, the secretary-general position was given to a serving official, Dr Parasaram Pattabhi Kesava Ramacharyulu, till further orders.
  • Poonawalla Fincorp announced the appointment of Gaurav Sharma as Group Chief Technology Officer.

  • Adani Transmission Limited (ATL) stated its board has approved the appointment of Rohit Soni as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company. 
  • Arun Kumar Singh as the next Chairman and Managing Director of privatisation bound Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL).
  • The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Rajnish Kumar as its economic advisor.

  • Bangladesh vaccine scientist Firdausi Qadri and Pakistan micro financier (economist) Mohammad Amjad Saqib has been included in the list of five people to be awarded this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Award.
  • Odisha-born neurosurgeon Basant Kumar Misra has received the ‘International Lifetime Achievement Award in Neurosurgery’ conferred by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS).
  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has awarded Chandigarh Railway Station a 5-star ‘Eat Right Station’ certification for providing “high-quality, nutritious food to passengers”.
  • The Bird Photographer of the Year (BPOTY) has unveiled the winning photos of its international 2021 competition.
  • Maharatna Central PSU Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), under the Ministry of Power, GOI was recently awarded the coveted “Association for Talent Development (ATD) 2021 BEST Award”.
  • The 27th Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra (GKCM) Award Festival will be hosted online between September 5 and 9.
  • SJVN has been conferred with prestigious Dun & Bradstreet – Corporate Award 2021 in the category of Best Growth Performance-Power.
  • A Myanmar photographer won the top award (Sept 4) at photojournalism’s biggest annual festival for his coverage of the troubled nation’s pro-democracy protests and bloody military crackdown.
  • Hyderabad International Airport clinched the CII ‘National Energy Leader’ and ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ awards at the 22nd National Award Ceremony for ‘Excellence in Energy Management’, the officials of GHIAL (GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited) informed.

  • On Aug 29, 2021, The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tabar participated in a Maritime Partnership Exercise with the Algerian Navy ship ‘Ezzadjer‘ off the Algerian coast, in the Mediterranean Sea.
  • The Indian Navy has signed a contract with Navratna Defence public sector unit (PSU) Bharat Limited (BEL) for the supply of the first indigenous comprehensive Naval Anti Drone System (NADS), with both ‘hard kill’ and ‘soft kill’ capabilities.
  • The Indian Army contingent will participate in the multinational military exercise, ‘ZAPAD 2021’, at Nizhny in Russia from 3-16 September.
  • The Gujarat Government will host 12th Defence Expo-2022 in Gandhinagar from March 10 to 13, 2021.
  • Indian Army, the force has signed a contract to procure over 100 armed drones called “SkyStrikers” from Bengaluru-headquartered Alpha Design-led joint venture (JV) with Israel’s Elbit Security Systems (ELSEC).
  • The three-day long 28th edition of Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise SIMBEX
  • The 4th edition of AUSINDEX, a bilateral navy exercise between the Indian Navy and the Royal Australian Navy has begun from September 06, 2021 and will continue up to September 10, 2021.

  • On Aug 28, 2021, The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted the first hot test of the system demonstration model (SDM) of the Gaganyaan service module propulsion system.
  • India’s first Quantum Computer Simulator (QSim) Toolkit was launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity).
  • Scientists of Indian Institutes of Technology, Ropar & Kanpur, and Faculty of Management Studies of Delhi University have jointly launched a living-plant based air purifier named “Ubreathe Life”.
  • A SpaceX shipment of ants, avocados and a human-sized robotic arm rocketed toward the International Space Station.
  • Hansa New Generation (NG) aircraft, designed and developed by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL), Bengaluru, successfully made its maiden flight from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) airport.

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of additional shareholding in TVS Supply Chain Solutions Pvt Ltd by TS Rajam Rubbers Pvt Ltd and Dhinrama Mobility Solution Pvt Ltd.
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank will sell 20 crore shares held in Airtel Payments Bank (APBL) for a cash consideration of ₹8 crore to Bharti Enterprises Ltd.
  • Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited  (RSBVL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has acquired 2,28,42,654 equity shares of Rs 10 each from Strand Life Sciences Private Limited for Rs 393 crore. 
  • In one of the biggest deals in the insurance space, private sector life insurer HDFC Life announced it was acquiring a 100 per cent stake in Exide Industries-promoted Exide Life Insurance for Rs 6,687 crore, in a bid to enhance its proprietary channel.
  • State-owned Bank of India stated LIC has picked up nearly 4 per cent equity shares of the bank through an open market transaction a day earlier.

  • Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) Mr. Hitesh Vaidya, Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) and Dr. Biswajit Roy Chowdhary, Chairman, South Asian Institute for Advanced Research and Development (SAIARD), NMCG signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SAIARD to create an academic platform to engage young students as well as develop a research and capacity building hub to support regional development in the eastern region.
  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) National e-Governance Division (NeGD) signed a memorandum of understanding with National Law University, Delhi and National Law Institute University in Bhopal to establish a Cyber Lab for the ‘Online Capacity Building Programme on Cyber Law, Crime Investigation, and Digital Forensics’.
  • India and Nepal signed a memorandum of understanding for the reconstruction of 14 cultural heritage and 103 health sector projects damaged by the devastating 2015 earthquake in the country.
  • India and the US have inked an agreement for cooperation in the development of air-launched unmanned aerial vehicles (ALUAVs), which could in the future lead to joint manufacture of artificial intelligence-enabled drone swarms capable of being launched from aircraft to overwhelm an adversary’s air defence systems.
  • IREDA has entered into a pact with TANGEDCO for providing technical expertise in developing of renewable energy projects and raising of funds.

  • On Aug 31, 2021, Indian shooter Singhraj Adana won the bronze medal in the P1 Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 final in Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
  • On Aug 31, 2021, In the men’s high jump T63 event, Indian paralympic high jumpers Mariyappan Thangavelu and Sharad Kumar won a silver and bronze respectively at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
  • On Aug 31, 2021, The South Africa pacer Dale Steyn, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket ending his 20 year long cricket journey.
  • On Sep 03, 2021, Indian para-athlete Praveen Kumar clinched a silver medal in the men’s high jump T64 event at Tokyo Paralympics.
  • 19 Year old Indian Para shooter Avani Lekhara won bronze in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event with a score of 4459.
  • On Sep 03, 2021, 31-year old  India’s Harvinder Singh won the bronze medal in the men’s individual recurve event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
  • On Sep 04, 2021, 19-year-old Indian para-shooter Manish Narwal won the gold medal with a score of 218.2 points in the P4 – Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 final at Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
  • World number one shuttler in the men’s SL3 category, Pramod Bhagat won the gold medal in the Men’s Singles SL3 category, beating Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell in the final, Meanwhile, Manoj Sarkar defeated Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara to win the bronze medal.
  • On Sep 05, 2021, Max Verstappen won the formula one Dutch Grand Prix 2021.
  • India’s Krishna Nagar won gold in the men’s singles SH6 category at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
  • India has secured a total of 19 medals (includes 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals) at the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020.
