Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) & Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri launched the ‘India WaterPitch-Pilot-Scale Start–up Challenge’ under Ministry’s Atal mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0.
The program comes under ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
This follows the ceremonial launch of AMRUT 2.0 by Prime Minister on 1st October, 2021, stakeholder consultations on 5th October, 2021 at Lucknow (during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations of MoHUA), and Cabinet approval of the Mission on 12th October 2021.

About the mission :

In line with the vision of Minister of India, Technology Sub-mission to engage startups as ‘Technology Partner’ has been approved by Cabinet under AMRUT 2.0.
The Mission aims to empower startups in the water/ used-water sector to grow through innovation and design that will drive sustainable economic growth and generate employment opportunities.
Under this initiative, Ministry will select 100 start-ups which will be provided Rs.20 lakhs as funding support as well as mentorship.
MoHUA organised ‘India Water Pitch-Pilot-Scale Start-up Conclave’ at India Habitat Centre to provide first of its kind networking platform to startups, young innovators, industry partners, incubators and States/cities. During the conclave, startup challenge was launched by Union Minister, HUA on MyGov platform.
The scheme will ensure water security in the country, reduce its transportation costs, reduce groundwater contamination, and increase water utilization capacity.
for the success of the Mission, Start-ups will have to play a meaningful role- by bringing in innovative ideas, Technology, novel delivery mechanism, etc.
At the event, several start-ups from various parts of the country engaged in water gave their presentations with innovative ideas and cutting edge technologies, the statement mentioned. The minister and other officials also saw the exhibition on the water sector, organised by various stakeholders engaged in water management, it added.

Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0) 2.1 AMRUT 2.0 is a step towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat with aim of making the cities ‘water secure’ and providing functional water tap connections to all households.
This will be achieved through circular economy of water by effecting water source conservation, rejuvenation of water bodies and wells, recycle/ reuse of treated used water, and rainwater harvesting by involving community at large.
This Mission run as people’s program i.e. Jan Aandolan.
Mission also targets to provide 100% sewage/ septage management in 500 AMRUT cities. 2.1.1 Mission will focus on empowering States/ UTs and cities for efficient implementation of projects in the spirit of cooperative and competitive federalism by providing flexibility to the States/ UTs to formulate, plan and implement the projects. CA released can be utilized for projects in any of the ULBs as per physical/ financial progress of the projects.

Ensure that every household has access to a tap with the assured supply of water and a sewerage connection.
Increase the amenity value of cities by developing greenery and well maintained open spaces (e.g. parks) and
Reduce pollution by switching to public transport or constructing facilities for non-motorized transport (e.g. walking and cycling). All these outcomes are valued by citizens, particularly women, and indicators and standards have been prescribed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA ) in the form of Service Level Benchmarks (SLBs).

Coverage

Five hundred cities have been selected under AMRUT. The category of cities that have been selected under AMRUT is given below:
All Cities and Towns with a population of over one lakh with notified Municipalities as per Census 2011, including Cantonment Boards (Civilian areas),
All Capital Cities/Towns of States/ UTs, not covered in above ,
All Cities/ Towns classified as Heritage Cities by MoHUA under the HRIDAY Scheme,
Thirteen Cities and Towns on the stem of the main rivers with a population above 75,000 and less than 1 lakh, and
Ten Cities from hill states, islands and tourist destinations (not more than one from each State).
