Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh- On 27th December 2017, BJP political leader Mr. Jai Ram Thakur takes sworn as Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister. The oath ceremony is presented by the Indian Prime Minister Mr.Narandera Modi and BJP President Mr. Amit Shah in the state capital of Shimla.

On October 13th 2017 election commission announced that Himachal Pradesh assembly election will be polled on November 9th 2017 for 68 seats and the results will be declared on 18 December. The last date for filing nominations in the hill state is 23 October. Scrutiny will take place on 24 October and the last date for withdrawal is 26th of October. While announcing the election schedule the chief election commissioner Achal Kumar Joti told reporters that “After Goa, Himachal Pradesh is the second state to use 100% paper audit trail (VVPT) to enhance the transparency of the poll.

The Assembly election of the state is very challenge to the Congress and the BJP in selecting the candidates. While present chief minister Virbhadra Singh, who is leading the election campaign and the senior-most BJP leader and former chief minister PremKumar Dhumal are the most talking names on both sides. After lot of conflict both parties chosen their leading CM candidates BJP selected PremKumar Dhumal to it and other side Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi announced Virbhadra Singh as the CM candidate because Virbhadra Singh is the CM of Himachal Pradesh for 30 years. In total there are 338 candidates in the fray in Himachal Pradesh elections, including 16 CM candidates and over 180 independents and a dozen rebels of the Congress, including former ministers Singhi Ram (Rampur) and Vijay Singh Mankotia (Shahpur). From all, 19 women candidates are in the fray. The BJP has fielded six women candidates, while the Congress has given tickets to three women candidates, including sitting Rajya Sabha member Viplov Thakur the contestant from Dehra.

On 9th November 2017 poll ended smoothly without any issues. On 18th December 2017 the counting starts at 8.00 AM. At the end of result there is a stunning result for BJP, the CM candidate of BJP PremKumar Dhumal, a former chief minister, was defeated by his Congress counterpart and former confidant Rajinder Rana by a narrow margin of 3,500 votes. But at the day end BJP leads the count by securing 44 seats, Congress got 21 seats and other parties got 3 seats. Now the biggest challenge is waiting for BJP because of defeat met by their CM candidate. They formed a meeting and elected Jai ram Thakur in Seraj constituency as chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.

On 27th December 2017, Wednesday, Jairam Thakur took an oath as Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Amit Shah, several Union Ministers and senior BJP leaders at the historic Ridge Maidan in Shimla.
