About Academy awards (Oscars):
- The Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit in the film industry.
- They are regarded by many as the most prestigious and significant awards in the entertainment industry worldwide.
- Given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the awards are an international recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements, as assessed by the Academy’s voting membership.
- The various category winners are awarded a copy of a golden statuette as a trophy, officially called the “Academy Award of Merit”, although more commonly referred to by its nickname, the “Oscar”.
- The statuette depicts a knight rendered in the Art Deco style.
About Oscars 2022:
- The 94th Academy Awardsceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films released between March 1 and December 31, 2021, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 27, 2022.
- The ceremony was hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes.
- It was the first ceremony since the 83rd Academy Awards in 2011 to feature multiple hosts.

Indian nominees in Oscars 2022:
- The team from Namit Malhotra’s DNEG has won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for ‘Dune’.
- Indian documentary ‘Writing with Fire’ was nominated in the Best Documentary Feature category.
It is Directed and produced by Indian film makers Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh
It is the first ever Indian nominee in this category.
