SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria 2020 is an important aspect before applying for SSC CHSL Exam. Staff Selection Commission (SSC) every year releases the official SSC CHSL notification for the recruitment of candidates for various posts under different Ministries. The SSC CHSL exam is one of the most sought after an exam and every year lakhs of aspirants appear for the exam and compete for their posts. Candidates who meet the SSC CHSL criteria of Age limit and educational qualification can apply for the various SSC CHSL posts to be announced in the recruitment notification

The computer-based online exam for SSC CHSL 2020 Tier-1 was scheduled to be held from 17th March 2020 to 28th March 2020, however, due to a complete nationwide lockdown, the SSC CHSL Tier-1 exam from 20.03.2020 to 28.03.2020 could not be held and had to be postponed. Now, the Tier-1 exam of SSC CHSL will be conducted from 12.10.2020 to 16.10.2020, 19.10.2020 to 21.10.2020 and 26.10.2020 for the leftover candidates. The admit card for the same will be released on the official website of Staff Selection Commission.

In this article, we will tell you the SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria which you can refer to before applying for the SSC CHSL exam. 

The SSC CHSL Eligibility can be divided into 3 parts:-

  • Nationality
  • Age Limit
  • Educational Qualifications

1. SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria – Nationality

A candidate must be either:

(a) a citizen of India, or

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Note:- In case, the candidates belong to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Also, a candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after, the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/ her by the Government of India.

2. SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria – Age Limit

The Age limit for all the posts under SSC CHSL is 18-27 years as on January 1, 2020. Therefore, a candidate must not be born before January 2, 1993, and not later than January 1, 2002, to be eligible to apply for the exam.

There are certain age relaxations as per SSC CHSL eligibility, under various categories as well as shown in the table below:-

PwD (SC/ST) 15 years
Ex-Servicemen (ESM) 03 years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on closing date of receipt of online application. 
Candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from January 1, 1980 to December 31, 1989.  5 years
Defence Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof 3 years
Defence Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof (SC/ ST). 8 years
Central Government Civilian Employees: Who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of online applications.  Up to 40 years of age
Central Government Civilian Employees: Who have rendered not less than 3 years regular and continuous service as on closing date for receipt of online applications (SC/ ST) Up to 45 years of age
Widows/ Divorced Women/ Women judicially separated and who are not remarried. Up to 35 years of age
Widows/ Divorced Women/ Women judicially separated and who are not remarried (SC/ ST). Up to 40 years of age

3. SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria – Educational Qualification

For LDC/ JSA, PA/ SA, DEO (except DEOs in C&AG): The candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

For Data Entry Operator (DEO Grade ‘A’) in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): 12th Standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.

Note:- As per the SSC CHSL eligibility criteria, candidates who have not yet received their educational qualification documents are eligible to apply provided they present the required documents as and when asked by the authorities.

SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria for Physically Handicapped Candidates 

SSC provides certain relaxations for physically handicapped candidates. Candidates must go through the permissible disabilities for respective posts:-

Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant One Leg affected (OL), One Arm affected (OA), One Arm One Leg affected (OAL), Both Leg Affected but not Arm (BL), Muscular weakness and limited Physical Endurance (MW), Blind(B), Low Vision (LV), Hearing Handicapped (HH) 

Note:- Person with disabilities are not eligible for any post under Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
