1). Reprieve (Verb) – दण्डविराम करना

Definition:  cancel or postpone the punishment of (someone, especially someone condemned to death).

Synonyms: grant a stay of execution to, cancel/postpone/commute/remit someone’s punishment

Antonyms: charge, punish

Usage: under the new regime, prisoners under sentence of death were reprieved

 

2). Intervene (Verb) — हस्तक्षेप करना

Definition: take part in something so as to prevent or alter a result or course of events.

Synonyms: intercede, involve oneself, get involved, interpose oneself, insinuate oneself, step in.

Antonyms: separated, ignore.

Usage:  he acted outside his authority when he intervened in the dispute

 

3). Liquidated (Verb) — परिसमाप्त करना

Definition: wind up the affairs of (a business) by ascertaining liabilities and apportioning assets

Synonyms: close down, wind up, put into liquidation, dissolve, break up, disband, terminate

Antonyms: remain, fail, fall.

Usage: if the company was liquidated, there would be enough funds released to honour the debts

 

4). Attributed (Verb) — जिम्मेदार ठहराना

Definition: regard something as being caused by.

Synonyms: ascribe, assign, accredit, credit, impute, allot, allocate

Antonyms: disconnect, separate.

Usage: he attributed the firm’s success to the efforts of the managing director

 

5). Emphasis (Noun) – प्रमुखता देना

Definition: special importance, value, or prominence given to something.

Synonyms: prominence, importance, significance

Antonyms: de-emphasis, unimportant, trivial

Usage: they placed great emphasis on the individual’s freedom

 

6). Purview (Noun) – अवधारणा

Definition: the scope of the influence or concerns of something.

Synonyms: attitude, idea, concept

Antonyms:  blindness, ignorance.

Usage: such a case might be within the purview of the legislation

 

7). Espionage (Noun) – जासूसी

Definition: the practice of spying or of using spies, typically by governments to obtain political and military information.

Synonyms: spying, undercover work, cloak-and-dagger activities, surveillance, reconnaissance, intelligence

Antonyms: following, foolish

Usage: the camouflage and secrecy of espionage

 

8). Archaic (Adjective) – प्राचीन

Definition: very old or old-fashioned.

Synonyms:  obsolete, obsolescent, out of date, anachronistic, old-fashioned, outmoded, behind the times

Antonyms: new, modern.

Usage: prisons are run on archaic methods

 

9). Innumerable (Adjective) — असंख्य

Definition: too many to be counted (often used hyperbolically).

Synonyms: countless, numerous, very many, manifold, multitudinous, multifarious, untold, incalculable

Antonyms: few, countable.

Usage: innumerable flags of all colours

 

10). Muster (Verb) — इकट्ठा करना

Definition: assemble (troops), especially for inspection or in preparation for battle.

Synonyms: assemble, bring together, call together, marshal, mobilize, rally, round up, raise, summon

Antonyms: disperse, separate, split.

Usage: 17,000 men had been mustered on Haldon Hill
