  • President Ram Nath Kovind has approved 144 Gallantry awards to Armed Forces, police and paramilitary personnel on the eve of Independence Day.
  • PM Modi stated the Gatishakti plan will help local manufacturers turn globally competitive and also develop possibilities of new future economic zones.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a new target of making India an ‘Energy Independent’ nation by the time the country reaches 100 years of India’s independence, in 2047.

  • On the occasion of 75thIndependence Day, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar Participating in ‘Operation Blue Freedom’.
  • Director Dr Randeep Guleria stated The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Delhi, has become the first hospital in India to house a fire station inside the hospital premises.
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to phase out single use plastic by 2022, keeping in view the adverse impacts of littered plastic on both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, has notified the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021, which prohibits identified single use plastic items which have low utility and high littering potential by 2022.
  • On India’s 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the National Hydrogen Mission (NHM).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the government will fortify the rice distributed to the poor via different schemes such as Midday Meal in a bid to address the problem of malnutrition.

  • Tamil Nadu government will launch a State Level Credit Guarantee Scheme to enable more MSMEs, particularly micro enterprises to access credit.
  • Chhattisgarh, carved out of Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 2000, became the first State, August 9 to recognize the Community Forest Resource Rights in urban areas.
  • The Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana will enable each family to get up to Rs.5 lakh as treatment cost a year.

  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has launched door-to-door delivery of ‘High-Speed Diesel’ to meet the growing demand.
  • Confederation of Indian Industry, CII has welcomed the announcement of Remission of Duties and Taxes on Export Products-RoDTEP rates by the Government.
  • The Office of the Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) released index numbers of wholesale prices in India (Base Year: 2011-12) for the month of July, 2021.
  • Seventeen years after it sold its stock for the first time in a relatively late public debut, Tata Consultancy Services crossed the Rs 13-lakh-crore mark in market value, becoming only the second in the country to do so  after Reliance Industries.
  • China appears to be taking greater control of ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns global video app TikTok, and Weibo, China’s version of Twitter.

  • The Indian Navy has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) FIRST Bank to initiate ‘Honour FIRST’, a premium banking solution for serving personnel and veterans of the Indian Navy.
  • The Dharwad-headquartered Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), in association with the Karnataka government, has launched ‘Farmer Registration and Unified Beneficiary Information System’ (FRUITS) portal.
  • HDFC Bank stated the bank plans to raise capital by additional tier- I (AT1) bonds in the overseas market to fund its business growth.
  • The country’s largest mortgage lender, HDFC Ltd, launched a “green and sustainable” deposits programme for retail clients, funds from which will be used to finance sustainable housing credit solutions and services.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has created a composite Financial Inclusion Index (FI-Index) to capture the extent of financial inclusion across the country.
  • To deliver a superior repayment experience for customers and increase efficiencies, Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMBL) announced that it has deployed a secure, Do It Yourself (DIY) Digital Repayment Platform for missed loan repayments, in a tie-up with Creditas Solutions.
  • RBI to introduce ‘Regulatory GAAR’ for round tripping
  • State Bank of India (SBI) Life Insurance recently announced the launch of ‘SBI Life eShield Next’ – a new age-term insurance policy, which raises or ‘levels up’ the protection coverage with the life milestones of the insured.
  • The Reserve Bank came out with revised guidelines for the hiring of lockers under which the liability of banks will be limited to 100 times its annual rent in case of fire, theft, building collapse or frauds by bank employees.
  • NPCI’s global arm NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) has partnered with UAE-based Mashreq Bank to provide its mobile-based real-time payment system UPI in the gulf nation.
  • The Reserve Financial institution of India (RBI) is putting in a Platform for Regulated Entities for Built-in Supervision and Monitoring (PRISM), a web-based end-to-end workflow automation system, to strengthen compliance by supervised entities (SEs).

  • Amway India has appointed Olympian Saikhom Mirabai Chanu as the brand ambassador for its Nutrilite range of products. 
  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has appointed Team India’s hockey player Vandana Katariya as the brand ambassador of the state’s Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development.
  • Actor-producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas was announced as the chairperson of Jio MAMI Film Festival, almost four months after Deepika Padukone stepped down from the position.
  • Olympian R. Sreejesh will be made brand ambassador of adventure tourism in Kerala.
  • Nitin Chugh has resigned from the position of Managing Director and CEO of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, a subsidiary of the listed entity Ujjivan Financial Services, with effect from September 30.
  • The government has appointed Lalit Kumar Chandel, Economic Adviser, Department of Financial Services, on the board of Bank of Maharashtra.

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented the Kalpana Chawla Award for Courage and Daring Enterprise to P. Shanmuga Priya, posthumously, at the Independence Day celebrations at Fort St. George.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: MOU’s AND AGREEMENTS   

  • Public sector Indian Bank stated it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) as one of the banking partners of the Paralympic Games scheduled to commence from August 24 in Tokyo, Japan.
  • The government of Bangladesh will sign an MoU for the co-production of the COVID 19 vaccine with China.
  • Homegrown auto major Tata Motors stated it has partnered with Bank of Maharashtra to offer retail financing for its passenger vehicles.
  • The Union Cabinet Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the MoU on cooperation in the field of Disaster Management, Resilience and Mitigation signed between India and Bangladesh in March this year during the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Bangladesh.
  • The UK government is looking at wrapping up a quick “interim” trade deal with India, which could see tariffs slashed on products like Scotch whisky before a full agreement is in place.
  • The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $500 million loan to expand the metro rail network in Bengaluru with the construction of two new metro lines totaling 56 km in length.
  • The Ministry of Tourism has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MakeMyTrip (India) Private Limited and Ibibo Group Private Limited as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the hospitality and tourism industry in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare chaired the event  Aarogya Dhara- 2.0 to mark the completion of 2 Cr treatments under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

  • Indian cinema icon Amitabh Bachchan has become India’s First Celebrity to lend his voice for Amazon’s Alexa.
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank has partnered with fintech firm Creditas Solutions to launch a digital repayment platform called ‘Neo Collections’ which is a Do It Yourself Digital Repayment Platform for missed loan repayments.

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), GSLV-F10 failed to place Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-03) into earth’s orbit.
  • Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay have developed a novel method of using infra-red technology to rapidly test which patients are most at risk of becoming severely unwell from Covid-19.
  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) successfully carried out the Ground Run and Low Speed Taxi Trials (LSTT) of the Hindustan-228 (VT-KNR) aircraft in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed an advanced chaff technology to safeguard fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) against threats.

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition by Lighthouse India Fund III, Limited (Fund III) and Lighthouse India III Employee Trust (Lighthouse Employee Trust) of Bikaji Foods International Limited (Target) under Section 31(1) of the Competition Act, 2002.
  • On Aug 16, 2021, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), Adani Road Transport Ltd (ARTL), has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 49 percent stake of Maharashtra Border Check Post Network Ltd (MBCPNL) a Subsidiary of Sadbhav Infrastructure Project (SIPL) an option to acquire additional stake.
  • The government of India will sell up to 25 percent stake in National Seeds Corporation (NSC) through an initial public offering (IPO).

  • Researchers from Kerala have identified three new species of wild balsam were named Impatiens achudanandanii, Impatiens shailajae, Impatiens danii
  • For the first time, A rare orchid species Cephalanthera erecta var. Oblanceolata has been discovered in the Mandal area of Uttarakhand Chamoli district by the state forest department.
