  • National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas has been celebrated on 31st October every year since 2014 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
  • World Savings Day/World Thrift Day is celebrated across the world every year on October 31. However, it is celebrated annually in India on October 30. The theme of World Savings Day 2021 is “Understanding the Importance of Savings”.
  • World Vegan Day is an annual event celebrated by vegans around the world every 1 November.
  • The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists is an UN-recognized international day observed annually on 2 November.
  • World Tsunami Awareness Day is observed on November 5 every year.
  • The UN General Assembly declared 6 November of each year as the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.
  • The National Cancer Awareness Day is observed annually in India on November 7, to spread awareness on cancer, its symptoms and treatment.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: NATIONAL NEWS

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Glasgow and visited the UK to participate in the 26th session of the Conference of Parties (COP-26). 
  • Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah launched the “Dairy Sahakar” scheme at Anand, Gujarat.
  • India will achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 and reduce one billion tonnes of carbon emissions from the total projected emissions by 2030.
  • Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman has chaired a review meeting with Ministry of Power, Ministry of Coal and Department of Atomic Energy in New Delhi to give a fillip to capital expenditure (CAPEX) and infrastructure progress in the country.
  • Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the “Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue” (IPRD) 2021, where he highlighted the importance of protecting the maritime interest of countries & maintaining a rule-based maritime system as per the United Nations Convention on the Law of Seas (UNCLOS), 1982.
  • Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) has inaugurated one of the world’s first and India’s largest landfill gas-to-compressed biogas plant at the Hyderabad Integrated Municipal Solid Waste (HiMSW) site, Telangana.
  • Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) – Ministry of Earth Science, launched India’s 1st Manned Ocean Mission ‘Samudrayan’ from the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
  • Home Minister Amit Shah has launched the ‘Ayushmaan CAPF’ Scheme health cards at the national level in New Delhi.
  • Defence Acquisition Council, headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved proposals worth 7,965 crore rupees for Armed Forces modernisation under Make in India.
  • The Ministry of Rural Development has signed an MoU with Flipkart to help empower local businesses and self-help groups (SHGs) especially those that are led by women by bringing them into the e-commerce fold.
  • The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has joined hands with Truecaller to provide passengers with greater trust in communication.
  • The Government of India has constituted a 20-member Empowered Group of Secretaries to monitor the development and implementation of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP)
  • On Nov 05, 2021, India’s first rooftop drive-in movie theatre was inaugurated at the Jio World Drive mall of Reliance Industries’ in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  • Former Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, George Fernandes, and Sushma Swaraj were conferred with Padma Vibhushan posthumously along with Classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra. 
  • Power Minister R K Singh has addressed the 47th Raising Day of NTPC in New Delhi.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged at the top of the global leader approval ratings. 
  • Publications Division is participating in the 40th Sharjah International Book Fair. 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, to inaugurate key infrastructure projects related to the redevelopment of Kedarnath.

  • The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea held that the ‘Shinincheon Bitdream Fuel Cell Power Plant’ at the Shinincheon Bitdream headquarters of Korea Southern Power in Seo-gu, Incheon has been completed and inaugurated.
  • The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP), a new 5 year, 49 million USD initiative to facilitate collaboration among Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
  • As per the latest “The Changing Wealth of Nations 2021 : Managing Assets for the Future” released by the World Bank, South Asia suffered the most loss in the world on human capital due to air pollution. 
  • According to the report of 6th edition, Public Affairs Index (PAI 2021) by the Public Affairs Centre (PAC), a Bengaluru- based non-profit think tank, the top three slots have been taken by Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana among 18 large states.
  • Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has declared victory for his ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). It was a big win for Kishida, who became Prime Minister only a month ago. His party secured more than 233 Lower House seats enough to govern without its coalition partner Komeito.
  • The 13th Meeting of Heads of National Statistical Offices (NSO) of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) Countries was held virtually under the Chairship of India.
  • Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan will be hosted by India on 10th November. The NSA level meeting will be chaired by NSA Ajit Doval. 
  • President of Senegal Macky Sall has expressed Senegal’s desire to continue to engage with India to achieve full potential of the bilateral relations.
  • In Ethiopia, nine anti-government groups, including the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), have agreed to form an alliance against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration.
  • Iran to resume Nuclear Deal talks with US and 5 other Nations in Vienna this month
  • In the United States, the first-ever 3-day ‘All American Diwali’ Celebrations started with a fireworks display over the Hudson River in New York City. 
  • India, Gambia ink two agreements for deepening bilateral relations
  • During the Patna tour Mr Naidu will visit two districts of East Champaran and Nalanda district of the state
  • The International Film Festival of India has announced the selection of films for the Indian Panorama section to be screened during its 52nd edition in Goa.

  • The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has, that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising officers from Operation Branch of Narcotics Control Bureau Headquarters has been constituted by the Director General of NCB to take over 6 cases from NCB Mumbai Zonal unit.

  • The Tamil Nadu Government has decided to participate in the Dubai World Expo for seven days from 18th to 24th March 2022.
  • An aromatic garden, with over 140 fragrant plant species from all over India, like Chandan, Tulsi, Parijat, etc., planted across 3 acres of land, was opened in Lalkuan, Nainital.
  • In Ladakh, All India Radio Kargil Launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in its premises at Baroo as well as all its associate Stations as part of the Nation Wide Swachh Bharat Abhiyan under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (Celebration of the 75th year of Independence).
  • The Delhi government has decided to declare 10th November as a public holiday on account of Chhath Puja. 
  • The air quality in the national capital Delhi is presently in the severe category
  • Haryana government has notified the State Employment of Local Candidates Act, 2020, which will come into force from January 15, 2022.
  • The third edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) 2021 is being held from November 7-9 under the aegis of Naval War College, Goa.

  • Public sector lender Indian Bank has reported ₹266.73 crore worth of fraud to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $250 million loan to support the Government of India’s National Industrial Corridor Development Program (NICDP). 
  • The finance ministry has approved an 8.5% return on employees’ provident fund (EPF) deposits for 2020-21, a move that will impact over 6.4 crore subscribers.
  • As part of a major rebrand, Facebook Inc has changed its corporate name to Meta (Meta Platforms, Inc.), in an effort to include its virtual reality vision for the future.
  • Pay U, India’s leading online payments solutions provider, launched a unique tokenization solution service called ‘PayU Token Hub’.
  • Max Life Insurance Co. Ltd became the 1st life insurer to join the Account Aggregator (AA) framework, which was introduced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in September 2021.
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMB) has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch Kotak credit cards on the RuPay network named ‘Veer’ for Indian armed forces i.e the Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel.
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has launched a video life certificate service for pensioners.
  • ICICI Lombard General Insurance has partnered with Vega to offer personal accident insurance cover on every online purchase of Vega helmet.
  • PhonePe launched PhonePe SafeCard, a tokenization solution for online debit and credit card transactions.
  • On account of the feedback received from the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has eased the Current Account (CA) rules for bank exposures less than Rs 5 crore and allowed borrowers to open CAs, Cash Credit (CC) and OverDraft (OD) from the banking system under certain provisions.
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved the 250 million USD (~Rs 1873 crore) loan to support the National Industrial Corridor Development Program (NICDP) of India.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently published its ‘Statement of Commitment to Support Greening India’s Financial System – NGFS.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATION

  • The Centre has appointed former Supreme Court Judge Justice Ashok Bhushan as the new Chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), for a period of four years or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is the earliest.
  • KPMG India has a new Chief Executive Officer in Yezdi Nagporewalla for a four-year term commencing on February 7, 2022 and ending on December 31, 2026.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal to appoint Justice Ashok Bhushan, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, as the Chairperson of National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) for a period of 4 years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or till he attains the age of 70 years or until further order.
  • The government has also approved the appointment of Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar, former chief justice (CJ) of Manipur High Court (HC) as the President of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
  • Indian-origin has taken over the resigns of a major multinational company. C.S. Venkatakrishnan, head of global markets for Barclays, has been appointed as the bank’s chief executive, following the resignation of Jes Staley after a report by UK regulators explored links with late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

  • The Indian Navy received its first P15B stealth guided-missile destroyer from Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders named “Visakhapatnam” (Y 12704).
  • The Mirage 2000 aircraft squadron of the Indian Air Force took part in the Blue Flag 2021 international exercise in Israel.
  • Air forces of India and Egypt conducted a two-day exercise called Desert Warrior at the latter’s El Berigat airbase.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: ACQUISITIONS & MERGERS

  • Paytm Insuretech (PIT), announced that Switzerland-based reinsurance platform Swiss Re will purchase a 23% stake of Paytm Insuretech, Paytm’s insurance unit, for about 920 crore rupee (a bit more than $122.6 million).
  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of 100% shareholding in Exide Life Insurance Company Limited by HDFC Life Insurance Company.

  • Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched an app called ‘Food Safety Connect to improve connect with consumers and food business operators (FBOs).
  •  Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar launched the ‘Uttam Beej portal’.
  • To commemorate Rashtriya Ekta Diwa, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched Bhasha Sangam initiative for schools, Bhasha Sangam Mobile App and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Mobile Quiz.
  •  Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA), a PSU under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched a ‘Whistle-blower Portal’.

  • The 7th Indian Navy Frigate of P1135.6 class was launched at Yantar Shipyard, Kaliningrad, Russia.
  • China successfully launched a Guangmu Earth-science satellite via a Long March-6 carrier rocket from Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the northern Shanxi Province.
  • China successfully launched three new remote sensing satellites from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in the country’s southwestern Sichuan province.
  • The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Air Force (IAF) have carried out two successful flight tests of indigenously-developed Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW).
