Explanation With Answers Key:

1). C)Relative speed = [194.4 × (5/18) + 6]
 = 60m/sec
Time = 15 seconds
 Length of the train = 60 × 15 = 900 metres

2). A)By cycling + by Walking = 6 hours 30 minutes …….(i)
One way by cycling
= (6 hours 30 minutes —1 hour 30 minutes) / 2
= 2 hours 30 minutes
By walking both ways = 2(6 hours 30 minutes — 2 hours 30 minutes) = 8 hours

3). B)Let the distance travelled on foot be x km.
Then, (x/3) + x (30—x) / 5 = 8
or, 5x + 3(30 – x) = 120
x = 15 km

4). C)Tap A’s capacity = (500 x 60) / 6
= 5000 ml = 5 litres per hour
Tap B’s capacity = (1 x 60)/5
= 12 litres per hour
Time = (5/5)+ (56— 5) / (12+5) = 1+3 Times = 4 hours

5). A)Time taken by A = 7 x 9 = 63 hours
and time taken by B = 6 x 7 = 42 hours
Now, (A + B)’s 1 hour’s work
= (1/63) + (1/42) = 5/126
Number of days of 8 2/5 hours each is
(126/5) × (5/42) =3 days

6). C)Pratap’s 1 day’s work = 1/x
Sohan’s 1 day’s work = 1/2x
Then, (1/x) + (1/2x) = (1/24)
2x/3 = 24
X = 36 days
Sohan alone can complete the work in 2 x 36 = 72 days

7). D)Perimeter of the rectangle
= 2ᅲr = 2 x (22/7)x14 = 88m
Area of the rectangle = 24 x (88/2) – 24
= 480m2

8). B)Diameter of the circle = Diagonal of the rectangle
Area = ᅲ/4 D2 = (22/7)× (14×14)/4 = 154 cm2

9). B)

Area of path = Area of AI3CD + Area of EFGH — Area of PQRS
= 12 x 4 + 16 x 4 — 4 x 4 = 96m2

10). B)Volume of the cone
=  1/3 x Volume of the cylinder = 1/3 x 450

= 150 cm
