Answers:

1.Answer a

The age of 6 members 3 years ago = 6 * 16 = 96 years

Total age of 6 members at present= 96 + (6×3) = 114 years

Total age of 7 members at present =7×16=112 years…

The age of baby = 114 – 112 = 2 years

2.Answer d

One year ago, the ratio of age of Rani and Yamuna = 2: 3(2x, 3x)

5 years hence, their ratio will be = 8: 11

According to the question,

(2x + 6)/(3x+ 6) = (8/11)

22x + 66 = 24x + 48

2x = 18

X = 9

The present age of Rani = 2x + 1 = 19 years

3.Answer c

Sum of the Present ages of A, B, C and D

= > (36*4) + (4*4) = 160 years

Sum of the Present ages of C, D, E and F

= > 43*4 = 172 years

Sum of the Present ages of E and F

= > (44*2) – 8 = 80 years

Sum of the Present ages of C and D

= > 172 – 80 = 92 years

Sum of the Present ages of A and B

= > 160 – 92 = 68 years

Required average = 68/2 = 34 years

4.Answer b

Let the present age of man and son be x and y,

(x – 5) = 4(y – 5) + 3

(x – 5) = 4y – 20 + 3

X – 4y = -12 -à (1)

(x+3) = 3(y+3) – 6

X +3 = 3y + 9 – 6

X – 3y = 0 -à (2)

Solving (1) and (2),

Y = 12, x = 36

Sum of present age of man and son = 12 + 36 = 48

After 16 years, Sum = 48 + 32 = 80 years

5.Answer a

5 years ago, the ratio of age of A and B = 3: 2 (3x, 2x)

The present age of A and B = 3x + 5, 2x + 5

Present age of C = Present age of A – 7

Present age of D = 13 – 6 = 7

Present age of C = 4 * present age of D

= > 4*7 = 28 years

Present age of A = 28 + 7 = 35 years

3x + 5 = 35

3x = 30

X = 10

The present age of B = 2x + 5 = 25 years

6.Answer b

5 years ago, the ratio of age of A and B = 2: 3(2x, 3x)

The average present age of A, B and C together = 28

Total present age of A, B and C = 28*3 = 84 years

Present age of C = Present age of B – 11

Present age of C = 3x + 5 – 11 = 3x – 6

According to the question,

2x + 3x + 10 + 3x – 6 = 84

8x + 4 = 84

8x = 80

X = 10

Present age of C = 3x – 6 = 30 – 6 = 24 years

7.Answer d

3 years ago, Rohit – Agila = 12

9 years hence, the ratio of Rohit and Agila = 7: 4 (7x, 4x)

Present age of Rohit and Agila = 7x – 9, 4x – 9

According to the question,

7x – 4x = 12

3x = 12

X = 4

Present age of Rohit = 7x – 9 = 19

Present age of Rohit’s mother = 19 + 25

= > 44 years

8.Answer c

Let the present age of C be x,

The ratio of the ages of two persons A and B = 2: 5(2x, 5x)

5x – 2x = 18

3x = 18

X = 6 years

A’s present age = 6*2 = 12 years

B’s present age = 6*5 = 30 years

Total present ages of A, B and C = 30*3 = 90 years

According to the question,

12 + 30 + x + 15 = 90

X = 90 – 57 = 33

Present age of C = 33 years

9. Answer b

Total present age of Anitha and Arjun = 23*2 = 46 years

After 5 years, their ratio will be = 4: 3(4x, 3x)

According to the question,

7x – 10 = 46

7x = 56

X = 8

Present age of Arjun = 3x – 5 = 24 – 5 = 19 years

10.Answer a

The ratio of present age of B and C = 3 : 1 (3x, x)

The present age of A = (Present age of C)2 = x2

Sum of present age of A, B and C = 45 years

3x + x + x2 = 45

X2 + 4x – 45 = 0

(x + 9) (x – 5) = 0

X = 5, -9(-9 will be eliminated)

Present age of A = x2 = 25 years
