Let the original speed of the train be x kmph. ∴ Original time = 400/x h

New speed of train = (x + 10) kmph and

new time required = 400/(x +10 ) h

According to question, 400/x- 400/(x+10) =2

x2 + 10x – 2000 = 0

x = 40 and –50

Disregarding the negative value, required original speed of train = 40 kmph

Total profit = y

Profit distributed among Ram and Shyam = 90/100xy= 9y/10
