1). Scandal (Noun) – कांड

Definition: an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing general public outrage.

Synonyms:  outrageous wrongdoing, outrageous behaviour, immoral behaviour, unethical behaviour

Antonyms: good deal, compliment, flattery, praise.

Usage: a bribery scandal involving one of his key supporters

 

2). Lavish (Verb) – उदार होना

Definition: bestow something in generous or extravagant quantities on.

Synonyms: give freely, spend, expend, heap, shower, pour, deluge, give generously

Antonyms: lacking, poor, reasonable, saving.

Usage: the media couldn’t lavish enough praise on the film

 

3). Erstwhile (Adjective) – भूतपूर्व

Definition:  former.

Synonyms: former, old, past, one-time, sometime, as was, ex-, late

Antonyms: new, recently developed, newly discovered, brand new

Usage: the erstwhile president of the company

 

4). Bumiputras (Noun) — स्वदेशी मलय मूल के एक मलेशियाई

Definition: a Malaysian of indigenous Malay origin.

Usage: bumiputra ownership

 

5). Preferential (Adjective) – अधिमान्य

Definition: of or involving preference or partiality; constituting a favour or privilege.

Synonyms: special, better, privileged, superior, favoured, advantageous, favourable

Antonyms:  worse, bad, oppose.

Usage: preferential interest rates may be offered to employees

 

6). Incumbent (Adjective) – अवलंबी

Definition: necessary for (someone) as a duty or responsibility.

Synonyms: binding, obligatory, mandatory, necessary, compulsory, required,

Antonyms: unnecessary, not important.

Usage: the government realized that it was incumbent on them to act

 

7). Barring (Verb) — को छोड़कर

Definition: except for; if not for.

Synonyms: except for, with the exception of, excepting, if there is/are no, bar, discounting

Antonyms: including, in addition to

Usage: barring accidents, we should win

 

8). Alleviate (Verb) – कम करना

Definition: make (suffering, deficiency, or a problem) less severe.

Synonyms: reduce, ease, relieve, take the edge off, deaden,  dull, diminish, lessen, weaken, lighten

Antonyms: irritate, worsen, incite.

Usage: he couldn’t prevent her pain, only alleviate it

 

9). Indigenous (Adjective) – देशज

Definition: originating or occurring naturally in a particular place; native.

Synonyms: native, aboriginal, local

Antonyms: alien,  foreign

Usage: the indigenous peoples of Siberia

 

10). Portraying (Verb) – चित्रित

Definition:  describe (someone or something) in a particular way.

Synonyms: represent, depict, characterize, describe, present

Antonyms: Confuse, Mix up, Obscure.

Usage: the book portrayed him as a self-serving careerist
