Swiss to become first airline to use solar fuel

• The Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss Air Lines plans has come to an agreement with synthetic fuel group Synhelionto be the first airline in the world to use solar aviation fuel.
• The plant will be based in Germany and will become operational from 2022.
• As per the agreement, SWISS along with its parent Lufthansa will support Synhelion’s commercial fuel production facility in Spain as well.
• Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and the Lufthansa Group have concluded a strategic collaboration with ETH Zurich spinoff Synhelion to bring solar aviation fuel to market.

About solar aviation fuel (sun-to-liquid fuel):

• The procedure uses concentrated solar heat to manufacture syngas which can then be synthesized into kerosene using standard industrial processes.
• This sun-to-liquid fuel closes the fuel carbon cycle: when combusted, it will only produce as much CO2 as went into its manufacture.
• The new fuel makes a major contribution to effectively decarbonizing air transport.

Paytm partners with IRCTC for unreserved and platform tickets

• Digital payments company Paytm has partnered with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to provide digital ticketing services to consumers through Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) installed at railway stations across India.
• This is the first time Indian Railways is providing an option to pay digitally for ticketing services through UPI on ATVMs to promote cashless commuting among railway passengers.

About ATVMs :

• The ATVMs placed at the railway stations are touch-screen based ticketing kiosks that will allow passengers to pay digitally, without requiring smart cards.
• Passengers will be able to purchase unreserved train journey tickets, platform tickets, renew their seasonal tickets and recharge smart cards by scanning QR codes generated on the screens.
• Paytm offers passengers the flexibility of paying through a variety of payment options : Paytm UPI, Paytm Wallet, Paytm Postpaid (Buy Now, Pay Later), Net Banking, Credit Card and Debit Card
• The new Quick Response (QR) code-based digital payment solution has already gone live across all ATVM machines at railway stations in India.

NOAA’s newest earth observing satellite GOES-T launched by NASA

• The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has successfully launched the third in a series of four next-generation weather satellites, Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite, GOES-T for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
• It was launched on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States (US).
• Once GOES-T is positioned in a geostationary orbit 22,300 miles above earth it will be renamed from GOES-T to GOES-18.

• The satellite will be providing continuous coverage of weather and hazardous environmental conditions in the Western Hemisphere.

Telangana Tops Among All States In Terms Of Per Capita Net State Domestic Product

• According to the latest data, from the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, the Telangana State has ranked the Highest in the country among states with a population over 1 crore in terms of growth rate in terms of Per Capita Net State Domestic Product at Current Prices.
• Telangana has overtaken Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
• GSDP in Telangana increased from 359434 crores in 2011-12 to 1,154,860 crores in 2021-22.
• The state’s GDP has grown by 31.12 per cent in the past decade – one of the highest jumps for any state in the country.
• In terms of the Percentage Growth in GSDP, Telangana has shown the most rapid bounce-back increasing its growth rate by around 17 percentage points from 2020 to the current time.

India ranks 3rd in billionaire population globally: Knight Frank

• According to property consultant Knight Frank’s 16th edition of The Wealth Report 2022 India is ranked 3rd in terms of most number of billionaires’ population globally in 2021.
• In India, the number of UHNWIs (net assets with US$ 30m or more) has grown by 11% YoY in 2021 to 145 billionaires, the highest percentage growth in Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

• City-wise, Bengaluru emerged as highest growth in the number of UHNWIs in 2021 at 17.1% to 352 billionaires followed by Delhi (12.4% to 210) and Mumbai (9% to 1596) in 2021.
• Asia continues to be the forerunner in the billionaires’ club contributing to 36% of the total billionaires in the world in 2021.

• For the first time, Knight Frank has examined the size of the ‘next generation’ of the world’s UHNWI population.
• Globally, it is estimated that 135,192 UHNWIs are self-made and under the age of 40, accounting for around a fifth of the total UHNWI population.
• India has ranked 6th in percentage growth of the UHNWI population that is self-made and under the age of 40 years.
• The number of UHNWI population in India is expected to grow by 39% between 2021 and 2026, with 19,006 people expecting to have net assets of US$30m or more by 2026.

• On March 01, 2022, In the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup,Indian shooting ace Saurabh Chaudhary has won the gold medal after defeating Micheal Schwald of Germany 16-6in Men’s 10m Air Pistol event in Cairo, Egypt.
• The silver medal has bagged by Germany’s Michael Schwald while Artem Chernousov of Russia claimed the bronze medal.

Strandja Memorial Boxing: Nikhat Zareen, Nitu win gold medals for India

• Indian boxers Nikhat Zareen (52kg) and Nitu (48kg) has won gold medals at the 73rd Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.
• Nikhat bagged her second gold medal ( previously won the Strandja Memorial title in 2019 ) at Europe’s oldest international boxing tournament with a 4-1 win in the women’s 52kg final.
• Nitu outpunched the reigning Youth World Championships bronze medallist Italy’s Erika Prisciandro 5-0 without breaking a sweat in the women’s 48 kg final.
• The bronze medal was won by Nandini (+81kg)
• The Indian contingent ended their campaign at the tournament with three medals including two golds and one bronze.
